Altel is History!

After looking around for REAL phones Saturday, I found only Sprint/ Nextel had good quality phones. Verizon looks like a clone of Altell, with row after row of pre-teen, and teenager flip phones. At the SPrint store I found large, rubber coated, loud ringing, real antenna, monster battery phones. AFter days of testing I found a combination of superior technology and better phones means WAY superior service.

I also called the " Business Line" for Altel, never received a call back after leaving voice mail messages, Verizon had a recording after entering numbers for 10min, that said they were closed With Sprint I was able to get a cell number and direct assistance......

So I will now get REAl phones, REAL CHEAP BUSINESS PLANS, and GPS timekeeping services, ect, ect. It appears ONLY Sprint is interested in the businesses that built the network, and the multiple lines of service a business purchases.....well, ok

Re: Altel is History!

Yeh, Nextel is silly despite having the best phones in the industry, kind of odd. Basically Sprint is taking NExtel tech and integrating it into there network, then discarding Nextel eventually.

I think it is, also, Sprint's goal of swithing to Q-Chat. That is what I heard. But, i think that will not happen until 2010. Or, even the intergration of Sprint and Nextel technology.

I could be wrong though.

Re: Altel is History!

Ok Alltel and Verizon use CDMA phones with BREW
Sprint uses CDMA phones with JAVA
unless a phone supports both BREW and JAVA you will see a different phone selection for Sprint, but not the much difference for Verizon and Alltel.
Sanyo phones are exculsive to Sprint at this time.

What is going to happen with Sprint
This fall Motorola will have a phone that does CDMA on PCS and iDEN mainly for PTT will come out to push NEXTEL customers to Sprint's PCS network. In 2007/08 Sprint will be upgrading to EVDO Rev A. Once most of its network is Rev A ready and PTT on Rev A is launched SMR phones with iDEN will be phased out. iDEN will be shut down sometime in 2010~12.

Re: Altel is History!

Talked to the salesman today, after the loaner I am using turned into a flaming blow torch after only a few minutes of use, not a problem I have seen so bad for many years.(our other loaner is doign it was well) AS well the battery was dead after a few hours. The loaner is a Sanyo RL-4920. My brothers phone is a RL-4930 ,which the salesman claimed was an 4920 with rubber around it......Man, these guys.... Not even close! Not only that, but the new GPS/ Time keeping roll out is in trouble and cannot do what I need for many months to come

I will dissagree with your signature a little. What you say is true, but also, as a businessman:

1. Someone who has a heavy duty phone.
2. Phone with a battery.
3. Reliable Phone.
4. A phone that can hold a signal.
5. A phone that has a ringer.
6. A business phone plan.
7. Business services and solutions.
8. Business management/ GPS solutions.

Re: Altel is History!

An ironic update. The Sprint business services roll out was CANCELED for now.(until they decide to do it and make phones for it) Get this, they decided to focus on pre-teens, teens and some general consumer, rather then team up with Nextel to bring us business service. The sales rep was priety down about it.

What is the deal? I would love to see market research on the value of business customers.

Re: Altel is History!

Sprint is great if you preffer dropped calls and waiting for 30 minutes to speak with customer service! The selection of phones have less to do with the quality of service than the actual phone itself. Sprint/Nextel do have a exellent selection of equipment, but the call quality and plan options are marginal compared to a larger carrier like Alltel or Verizon

Re: Altel is History!

I have to agree with BigDaddy - Sprint/Nextel is great if you are driving down a major interstate by one of their towers but "dropped call city" once you get past. Not to mention their customer service has alot to be desired. Walked into the store to purchase two plans - they found out that it was for my business and the "what can I do for you" turned quickly into him pulling out a list and reading me a list a mile long of paperwork I needed to attempt to open account. I walked out and walked into the Alltel store where I carry my personal phone account. 20 Minutes later I had 2 plans and 2 phones. I didn't even have to offer my first born child to do it.

Re: Altel is History!

Check out the LG AX390 if want something somewhat durable. Its not up to some of the nextels or even a Sanyo scp7300 (?) but they seem pretty tough, and service and price blows sprint away as long as you want voice and not a TV for your EE's

Re: Altel is History!

The E815 from Alltel is a pretty tough phone. After continuous dropping on concrete and banging around, my old E815 is still working great. If you want durable its a good choice. I swapped to a RAZR just to get a lighter phone for my pocket. As far as the Sprint/Nextel vs. Alltel........you wont get much better service than Alltel.

Re: Altel is History!

Dear AllTel Folx,

Seems that I got "Suckered" with simplefreedom, first real experience has been so negative, I
want to get in touch with my Jewish investors and liquidate their stock and buy into NET-10, or
merge with Cingular Wireless..

On March 31st, I was stood up on a date, and went to go see a movie.. (SHOOTER good flick)
and got a txt message from a friend in Houston... (I saw the movie in Waco.. quite a drive) But,
I drove to Houston, and realized.... service went out, and couldn't make calls.. "Please Dial 1, then
the 10 digit number, after the # sign" was all I got.. I promptly keyed in the required numbers and
the message repeated again and again, then hung up.. I could TXT message, but could not call out
voice wise! AllTel's customer service acted like air heads filled with helium! Promised much, did
very little. My voice mail don't work when I try to access it due to a Busy Signal issue.

I'm not very happy with simplefreedom, due to Not able to download ringtones, access the AXCESS / BREW internet, and such (unexplained expletitives) horrid service, I want to liquidate
the stock investment groups and just put my riches, and wealth into a phone company that will
walk the talk, and talk the walk! Hire responsible and mature customer service reps that WILL
FIX the problem, treat the customer with respect and of course, SOLVE THE FREAKING
problem! After my losses into this company, I ask Hashem for a few hundred billion to rebuild
and possibly reinvest my money into a cell phone company that will deliver what they say!
(Yes, I am Jewish, and I ask Hashem for financial help since nobody else wants to!)

I rather invest money to build a cell phone company with nice customer / tech support reps
that speak english, and are patient with the call, not worried about average handle times, not
worried about how long a call takes as long as they solve the problem, and the customer base is
happy! Happy Customer means Stable Profits! Angry Customers, means Bankruptcy Chapter
11, or 13! lol The Key to a Successful Operation is professionalism, maturity, and of course
following through!

Shalom,

Micha'el D. Lucas

Re: Altel is History!

With all due respect.... Sometimes... 'rich' people need a 'phone' that's anonymous! lol just
kidding. At any rate, I got off the phone with simplefreedom / alltel and they told me, that the
Voice Mail Network is "down" and having issues. Sounds like the BREW / AXCESS, and the
Voice Mail system is not working correctly. Take My Advice, Go Get a NET10 Phone! At
least the phone has some cheapo games on it, and better tools, plus it looks like a "REAL" phone
to begin with. NET10 phone may not go where alltel / simplefreedom goes but its a port in a storm,
or two or three... Or simply, go get a phone that is Indigenous to each area. (I.E. go get a Cellular
One Phone, Nextel, Simplefreedom, Net10, and local area brand phones, that will have good
coverage or overlapping coverage. So that way you aren't stuck out.) Meaning, go get different
phones where you plan to roam, so if it means carrying a handbag of 20 different phones, at least
you WON't be stuck in a rate plan, or 2 year contract, with penalties and fee's if you decide to go
to another phone! It sounds stupid, perhaps immature, but in the long run, put the name of each
town you got the phone, and determine the coverage, where one phone says NO SERVICE, lite up
another phone that does HAVE SERVICE, and call accordingly. That is, even Rich People got to
save money, even if it means having plenty of pre-paid phones, with rollover minutes, and other
phones that compensate the "DEAD ZONE"

I'd PAY $0.10 cents to see the "My Friends Circle" go down, with Chad being hog tied, and
the other wireless guys "PINCHING" him in the van! LOL NAhhhh.. If Altel is History, then
may Hashem make me a multi-zillion, trillion, billion, millionaire, rich enough to buy them out,
and change the way we talk on the cell phone! I don't think Hashem is "THAT" stupid! LOL
If all else fails, just go till the phone "NO SERVICES" out, go buy another cell phone in the area
it can get service, and viola, a Bag of Phones!

Ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok, sorry about my ranting and raving, just disappointed, in the way
Cell Phone Service is being handled. I hope things improve, or go to the Comm Badges found
in Star Trek! "Riker to Enterprise, One to transport... Energize!" (taps the comm badge)

Shalom,

Michael D. Lucas
