Howdy Spicaly,

If you mean "They" as in the cell phone carriers, yes.

Both T-Mobile and Cingular will unlock you phone if you have been a customer for at least 90 days, and let them know you need to have the subsidy code for using prepaid SIM cards while in Europe.

Sounds tricky to me. I'm sure that's the way to lock up a market though.

Welcome Apprentice.

Since unlocking is such a popular topic, I'm going to "teach you to fish" rather than just filling your plate.

Use the search link above, or in the signature of a moderator, and you'll find numerous threads & posts about unlocking a phone. If you still have questions, feel free to post it up in that thread and someone will definitely help ya out.

Now that you know a great overlooked feature, hop to it! Dive in and enjoy.

This is by far the best information i have read on unlocking my SLVR L7 w/ cingular. I have trolled literally hundreds of threads and this is the first I have read of Cingular doing this. Most people just say they will not. Funny part is this is the exact reason I want to unlock mine!

now to figure out my stupid V180... I swear i must have toasted it trying to unlock it!

Re: Unlocking Motorola Phones using IMEI #

Just for the Record. I got a phone that was locked. Got onto this site to find out what the hell "locked" ment. Called cingular to get the code. They asked for the IMEI number (but its to damn small for me to read so I need to buy a magnifing glass) and when I give them the number they will give me the code. It took one google search and a phone call and I am still on my first cup of coffee.

what is this tool and where do you find it? this is the first post that ive come across in a forum that says you only need the IMEI and not the carrier? if this is true, why cant tracfone's be unlocked if they have SIM card access?
