Received delivery report for someone else?

About two weeks ago, my girlfriend had a delivery report on her Virgin PAYG
phone for a number she's never sent a message to (and delivery reports are
not turned on anyway).
Also, yesterday I received two messages from a mobile number, one was blank
and the other said "who are you?" I've never sent a message to the sender's
number and it's not in my phone book. Is it possible that someone has
received a message from our numbers even though we never sent them? I can't
remember if both numbers were exactly the same, one started 07913.

What I'm wondering is if some of those online text services allow you
to add your number as if it was from there, and someone has used yours
by mistake

- it seems odd that they are anonymous though, and I don't understand
the delivery report either

Usually the simplest answer is the right one.

Someone may have been messing with your phone.

May be a simple answer but that wasn't the case - the phone was with me the
whole time on Sunday when I got the messages and as I've got no credit it
would be hard to send any messages anyway
