Verizon MP3 Ringtone problems? Solution!

N e ways ill just spill it through easy directions

1. Download or browse your comp. for your favorite song

2. Cut the song so that it stays below 300k !!! which means the songs around 12 - 18 seconds long

3. Now save the cutt-ed song with a new extension ".mid" For example if you have Mariah-Through the chicken, rename it Mariah-Through the chicken.mid

4. Use winamp or sumthin and check to make sure that the cutt-ed song has an ID3v2 Tag. You can check this by right clicking the song while playing in winamp and press file info.

5. If ID3v2 tag isnt there, just create one. You dont have to have anything there.

6. OK now after the assembling part, the sending part...I have a card reader, but it wouldnt read. So, use your email i.e. yahoo, aol, msn, etc and sent it to YOURNUMBER@VZWPIX.COM and attach file with the cutt-ed song.

7. Retrieve your message, save into My_Sounds or wutever it was and set it as a ringtone.

Im not too sure if u need to do the whole ID3v2 thingy, i just read it somewhere and i did it. It works.


It sure as hell beats buying ringtones directly from Verizon...

Someone check to make sure it works, if it doesnt then just talk and ill try and figure it out...

How do you save the cut file as a .mid format?

Most sound editing software will allow you to save as... a midi file. You can also just rename the file with a new extension (*.mid instead of *.mp3).

I tried to just rename it and it didnt work, but i'll check some more with my programs.

after you save the cutted file just right click it and rename it. Windows XP should take care of the rest

I tried just renaming it and windows xp doesnt get it. it just leaves it as an mp3. i also tried to save it as a .mid in adobe audition but that doesnt work either. I really dont wanna have to buy ringtones from verizon. lol. i have a Samsung SCH-a950 supposable it can read .mid, .qcp, and .acc formats. i tried following some instructions i found for turning a wave into a .qcp but it sounds horrible. /sigh

Ow, i've never tried this method with the a950 =/ since ive got myself a a930...somehow the title of this thread changed from a930 mp3 ringtones to verizon mp3 ringtones

as long as the file name has a .mid at the end its okay. I tried to figure out what was going on with urs, and yah mine also has the .mp3 at the very end, but it was okay.

So heres what it looks like to me

- This is what it looks like as a file info on winamp - i realized there was a .mp3 at the end, but im guessin the phone will just accept it as a .mid

So try this, when u see the file - make sure it has the .mid at the end, but the file info should have a .mp3.

Have u tried the clip i made? just basically follow the size, name, etc of the example file.

to make the extensions work....

In a Windows explorer window... tools, folder options, view... check "show hidden files and folders," uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"....

then you can change extensions without a problem

Thanks SO MUCH, I got this to work!!! Now, can I turn down the volume a bit on the phone just for the ringtones? or do I have to lower the volume with my sound editing software?

im pretty sure if u press the side buttons on the a930 u can lower the ringtone volume in general - i would just use that method unless u want to go through more work

Brainster, since you know so much about the A930 lol, I have another question. Say I want to put some movies/video clips on my microSD card, what format do they have to be in?

How do I shorten the file? I knew about the whole process to e-mail the files but I never knew how to shorten them and they all failed. Somebody help!

Most sound editing software will do this easily. If you can get your hands on it, CoolEdit is really easy to use. I'd check out Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com and see if you can find a freeware or shareware (if it's a one time deal) program to use.
