The Good, Bad, & Ugly of Boost Mobile

The Good
- 10c / Minute Fee For Mobile To Mobile & For Nights and Weekends
- Free to receive text messaging
- Decent 90 Days Before Credit Expiration
- $1.00 / Day For Unlimited PTT, DC, Walkie-Talkie, Two-Way, or Chirp (Could be cheaper?)
The Bad
- 20c / Minute Fee For Peak Usage (How about 15c or 10c per min.?)
- Often Delay Of Receiving Text Messages
- As Of Sept. 11th, Charge Of $1.00 For PTT When You Are Contacted & Do Not Wish To Answer
- Raise Of Wireless Web From 20c To 35c Effective Sept. 11th
The Ugly
- Boost Hogging The Bandwidth Of Nextel Users
- Marketing Is Hitting A Slow-Down

Re: The Good, Bad, & Ugly of Boost Mobile

Good post Die-Hard! Of all days, why'd they pick 911? Kind of funky...

In theory, Boost is a good idea...I just saw a commercial for it on TV and it's definitely aimed at a very focused demographic, it just really sent Sprint/Nextel into a wicked tailspin.

Re: The Good, Bad, & Ugly of Boost Mobile

I didn't realize the 9/11 part until you stated that... Guess I'm not fully awake.

Boost hs a unique and well-sold product but you think they would do a little more for the customers, I guess not. It'd be nice to have 10 or 15c per minute rates, possibly a little bit less for chirp too (75c / day?).

I'm also wondering where's their version of the i580 phone is, too? I really like that phone and for my usage, their service would be approprate if they offered that phone.

Just my random thoughts...

Unfortunately, they still have to make money; and that's how they get more of it back from the segment that's not committed to a contract.

I'm with you all the way on the i580, I would hope that they would do something like that with the dual mode stuff. I don't see why they wouldn't.

Re: The Good, Bad, & Ugly of Boost Mobile

I was going to post to say what a good deal I thought the Premium plan was from Boost, but that was when it was 300 minutes for $50 with free nights & weekends after 7pm... I went back to double check the rates and they have made some changes. To get free nights & weekends now, you actually have to go up to the $70/month "plan" (no contract means they can change it on you anytime they want so I'm hesitant to call it a plan). My roommate still likes it, he said the $70/month is cheaper than re-boosting $20 at a time and gives him more talk time (counting the nights/weekends).

Re: The Good, Bad, & Ugly of Boost Mobile

More Bad about Boost.

While not a Boost user, my friends use boost phones mainly for the walkie talkie.

What bad is when I try to call their phone. The typical result when I try to call them is the message "Call cannot be completed at this time. Something in Spanish Message 6or03gn". 8 out of 10 call attempts end with this message. The other 20% end up in a voice mailbox. I think I've had a call make it through once.
And when I send text messages they don't always arrive in a timely message.
From my observations, Boost is only good for talking to other Boost users. If you friends have use other service providers you might as well not even own a phone.
And if you only use Boost for the walkie talkie, get a Amateur Radio license and a 2m band handset, Hi initial cost (license and handset), No cost in the long run.

I've Had Boost A Little Over A Year And I Love It. Especially Now With The Premium Prepaid. That Made It All That Much Better.

i hate boostmobile and never will be with them again. customer service treats you like a second class citizen. you get reps that dont know what they are doing and have to call back and you might get some one that does. I had the old plan for since it started and missed one payment, they canceled my plan. I dont want to pay $70 for a plan i had for $50. Also if you break or loose your phone you are SOL. Plus you dont get as much service features as other providers even with pre-paid.

I've been with boost for 4 years now, pretty reliable its just the rates suck stronger than a Vacuum! Since I have no reason to talk a lot over a cell phone though, $20 usually lasts me a month or two.

Re: The Good, Bad, & Ugly of Boost Mobile

I use Boost mainly for Telenav and for the rare DC session. The things I would change are the cruddy Cust. Serv. and the 90 day re-up. TMo2Go has spoiled me with the yearly re-up (after adding $100 to account). Boost should offer the same for the very light users such as myself.

Also, their program selection leaves a lot to be desired. I know the phone is marketed more to younger folks who will shell out $$ for ringtones and wallpapers, but better things could be offered.
