Motorola Q Tips and Tricks

From Motorola Q Tips and Tricks - Everything Q

Lock/Unlock the Keyboard
Press Home and then Spacebar to lock your phone quickly, without having to hold down the Home button.

To unlock it, just follow the on-screen instructions. Press 'LEFT' softkey and then press '*' key, also your alpha (A) key.

Voicemail
Press-and-Hold the 1 key.
Within two seconds voicemail will be started.

HowTo Program Voice mail Auto-Pin Entry:

Start > Settings > Call Options
Scroll to Voice mail number:

Enter YOUR information in the following format: AREA CODE+PREFIX+SUFFIX+pp+VOICE MAIL PASSWORD+#
Example: 5555551234pp0000#
Note: Delete pp0000# to remove auto-pin entry.

This HowTo is based on Motorola Q software version Q2-BP_C_06.07.03P.

Filter and sort contacts from home screen
Pressing any Alpha key at the home screen will bring up the contact list...and filter the contacts based on the alpha key you pressed. If the alpha key you hit also happens to be a Numeric key, it pre-dials that digit while filtering the contacts list.

Quick access to flight mode, profiles and more
Press and hold the home key for 2 seconds. This will bring up a quicklist of items including profiles, flight mode, and device lock.

Recent Call List and Log
Press "Spacebar" at the Home Page to access the Recent Call List or Press the "Send" button.

Save e-mail
When you have the email downloaded on the Q, go to File Manager and navigate to \Application Data\Volatile. You will see your attachment there - click Menu\File\Copy To.

Then, navigate down to your Storage Card folder (or into a subfolder, if you like), and hit Done.

Automatic Profile
If "Automatic" profile is set, your Q will switch your profile automatically depending on your schedules and others. For example, if you have a meeting in your calendar, it will switch to "Meeting" profile during that time and switch back when it is done.

Unread Message Alert
To make sure that your Q keeps remindering you for any unread messages, set "Unread Message Alert" ON from Start > Settings > Unread Message Alert". The default is OFF.

Please post your tips here.

If you have two email accounts assigned to your device, only select one to automatically sync. Set your Exchange server Active Sync (business email ) peak times so they don’t conflict with your peak personal email usage times. This will also improve your overall battery life performance. See Power Saving Tips and Tricks for instructions on how to set your synchronization schedule

  7. Type out your email and press Send.
6. Send a URL from Explorer

While in Explorer, you can send a URL directly to somebody via email by selecting Menu > Tools > Send link via email

While using an Exchange server, if you delete emails from the Q, you should be able to access these items from you Outlook deleted folder on your PC.

I'm looking into the purchase of a new phone, and was wondering how many characters you can send in a text message with the Motorola Q?

There is a much quicker way to do this on a Q 9h (not sure if it's the same for a Q)

Disable Bluetooth while not in use

At your home screen:
- Scroll to the AT&T/time/date part of your home display and press the middle of the d-pad to select it.
- Click on "Bluetooth" to turn BT on or off.
