Misscuetee,
Don't despair. I got help from another forum. First, you must already have some sort of music editor. I use Flexiwave Music Editor. That way you can find sound clips and songs from any source (i.e. CDs, online, friends) and choose how long and what part of the source you want as a ringtone. In general, the clip needs to be around 18 seconds long or shorter. Then make sure you save the clip as an mp3 yet make sure the file has the same structure as the following example: manah1.mid. Now, you need to get Winamp. Don't worry, it's freeware. Open the mp3 file and then open the playlist editor and view file info. You should see two sections. Both are IDtag editors for V1 and V2. Both sides need to be activated/clicked and make sure you save changes.
You should now have an mp3 file (using my example) named manah1.mid Now go ahead and email that mp3 file to yourself and when you get it, it should remain as an mp3. Once you save the sound, you should be able to set it as a ringtone, alert, or Contact ID. Good luck. Back in business. hell yeah.
Peace

P.S. Mad props to Brianster. Your post was the one that finally got me adding ringtones in Dec '06. I just got lazy with doing the IDtags cuz most of the time, the mp3 would work without me having to do all that extra stuff. Now it looks like all that IDtag stuff needs to be done now. (which you advised in July '06 to do).
