Stop hobbling the phones by deleting functions the manufacturer built it
with?

Remember that they're just that-- PHONES. I want small, light, well
designed, ergonomic, good reception/sound quality along with decent battery
life.
If I was interested in a combo music player, camera, flashlight and electric
shaver, I'd go to Sharper Image or an In-Flight shopper magazine and buy
one. | | | |

Make a bar phone without a camera. Verizon doesn't offer them anymore. | | | |

I would like a nice little, purse-sized flip-phone with a stubby antenna
and the ability to get a signal in areas not so close to a tower. I just
want to talk on it. I don't want to take pictures. I don't want to
listen to music. I'm too old for texting. I don't much care what color
the screens are as long as they aren't red.

#7 | | Guest | Hmmm... It would be nice to have simple phone, with a speakerphone, and
that would be it. the only way you can get that if if you go back and order
one on ebay
i expect all the phone if not most, to have touch screen phone like i
phone, but smaller and sleek design, and i expect verizon to loose up on
some of thing they restrict... ( naw not going to happen)

I don't mind extras, as long as that's what they really are. That's why
I like my V710. It's first and foremost a good, solid, quality phone,
and the extras are just that, extras.
(Incidentally, I do not consider Bluetooth to be an extra.

I have the Bluetooth ear thing. The man in the Verizon store set it up
with the phone. I wish I knew how to work it.
My daughter says just push the button. Don't I have to do something with
the phone? How far away can the phone be from the ear thing? I looked at
the papers that came with the ear-thing and I think the manufacturer
assumed that everyone knew what to do with these things. I don't.
I didn't go out to buy it. It came with the case and car charger, both
of which I know how to use.
Anyone have a grandma-friendly tutorial on using Bluetooth that I can
comprehend.
TIA

#10 | | Guest | Once the phone and the earpiece are paired, the phone and earpiece only need
be near each other, like within six feet. When your phone rings, instead of
answering it, you push the button on the earpiece, wait a couple of seconds
for it to make a connection, and talk. When you're done talking, press the
button again, and it hangs up

#11 | | Guest | I think they should dump their UI and use the phone manufacturer's original
UI.
Bigger batteries would also be nice. I'd gladly carry around a battery that
was 3 times as big if it could last 3 times longer!

#12 | | Guest | Easy! Either.....
1/ Put new guts and a slightly larger screen on a StarTac, add a
speakerphone, voila, near-perfect phone, and/or
2/ Put Verizon guts in any of the ruggedized Nextel flips. Have never been
able to figure out why they don't do this.....phones are both made by
Moto.....what's the diff???
Dean
PS: I don't completely disagree that we are jerking our own chains
here----VZW product line will no doubt be dictated by some committee of
whiz-kid college-boy dildoes, motivated by a penny on a bottom line
somewhere.

Tell us the make and model of your Bluetooth ear thing, and that of your
phone, and we'll be able to tell you how to get them to talk. The rest
you can learn simply and easily, one command at a time.
The process of introducing the phone and the ear thing is called "pairing".
Some people say it's complicated, but it's only two steps:
1. Tell the ear thing to announce its presence.
2. Tell the phone to look for things which are announcing their presence.

#15 | | Guest | The Verizon Pantech PN-300 sounds like just what you want. I got a couple
of them for my elderly parents. No camera. No bull**it. Great audio. The
antenna can be pulled up for extra range. However, with the antenna down,
it works fine everywhere, so far.
It lacks bluetooth, however. So, if you want a headset, it would have a
wire on it. The speakerphone works great, even in the car. -No headset
needed.
Hearing aid compatible.
