Data software for audiovox 8915

I need help finding software for the VirginMobile audiovox 8915 phone so I can transfer pictures through my computer with my data cable I brought that supports the 8900 series.

Install first:

Drivers/PC Sync: http://www.curitel.com/UploadDATA/mf...115CPCSync.zip

Then use either QPST or BitPim:

BitPim: www.bitpim.org
QPST: (search forum and elsewhere, because it's often moved around )

After installing PC Sync and its drivers, you should be able to use it to edit/backup calendar/messages/contacts, but after you then install BitPim and/or QPST, you can copy over pictures to your PC. (PC Sync has that ability, but most carrier branded 8910 firmware has it blocked, and I bet the 8915 is the same)

After all the installs and a reboot, connect the phone. In BitPim, go to the filesystem tab, and click the +. In one of the folders there should be a camera folder, in which the pictures should be. You can either copy them over one at a time, or right click the folder to copy over the entire folder as a zip file.

DO NOT DELETE PICTURES WITH ANY SOFTWARE. ONLY do that on the phone by the keypad.

QPST is similar, but requires the entry of the 8915VMs MSL code in the field asking for the SPC. I've heard the MSL is 657223.

Set it to "other CDMA phone" and make sure that in settings, it's using the Curitel Packet Service Port that appears when the phone is connected. (connect phone first)

I tried bitpim and it says it cannot find the phone. I used Other/CDMA & port 7 as suggested.

I have the pn-215 as well as the same problem. The pictures show up as .dat files and I can't open them. What do I need to do?

btw, I'm very thankful for the info I've gotten so far from the forums.

Yup! The SPC for the 8915... 1st time use= 111111 after that it is 657223. Using QPST Service Programming I was able to change my 657223 to default 000000. Much easier for me to remember.

Re: Data software for audiovox 8915

I have 3 of the Audiovox/UTStarcom CDM8915 phones on a family calling plan, with Ntelos as our carrier.

Bought the USB cable, got BitPim and QPST, and the drivers, and have been trying for about a week now to figure out how to download photos from, and upload wallpaper to those phones.

BitPim tells me that the Brew folder (where the photos are stored under "shared/jpeg"...see attachment "QPSTscreen1.JPG") is locked,
and QPST gives me
Error Code (8197):Unknown Error (see attachment "QPSTscreen2.JPG")
when I try to upload wallpaper pics.

Ntelos customer service tells me that this is a problem with the phone itself and referred me to UTStarcom.

UTStarcom's customer service tells me that there is NO cable and/or software to transfer data to and from the phone, and that the plug-in port at the bottom of that phone is only for another charging cable and NOT for a data cable.

If that's the case, then why can I access the phone through that data cable?
Actually, I can access the file view on both BitPim and QPST. Both programs will recognize the phones, but I just can't upload or download...at least not to the BREW folder.

I did get as far as being able to have QPST go through a download of a photo from the Brew/shared/jpeg folder to my PC, but when that photo got there it was 0 bytes and didn't show up.

Any suggestions? --- PLEEEAAASE!!!???

Re: Data software for audiovox 8915

Since this pops up as the first Google search result, I'd thought I'd post my guide on how to get your pictures off your phone and onto your PC. Note that this is for pictures only, no fancy-shmancy own ringtones or other hacker-happy cajoles. I registered here to post this since I just got it to work on my own Virgin Snapper under Windows XP, which was a bit of a pain but easy once you know what works and what doesn't. It's quite simple if you follow these steps closely. You'll need to copy and paste the links since I can't post them directly.

You'll need:
1) A data cable for the Snapper (Audiovox 8915). These usually cost 10-15$ and will work for a range of 8xxx phones, including the 8915.

2) The Curitel Phone / Modem drivers:
curitel.com/UploadDATA/mf_down/TX115CPCSync.zip

3) BitPim (I used the latest test release for this):
bitpim.org

Now, follow these steps closely. Don't go skipping any steps or it won't work at all.

a) Install the Curitel drivers.
b) Install BitPim.
c) Reboot.

d) Turn the Snapper / 8915 OFF.
e) Plug in the data cable. The phone will turn itself on.

f)
Windows will detect a new USB interface. Upon it asking for drivers, manually point it to your Curitel installation directory (C:\Program Files\CURITEL\Curitel Packet Service for me). If it asks to install unsigned drivers, choose Install Anyway. This may need to be repeated 2 or 3 times as it installs all necessary drivers.

As soon as there are no more New Hardware messages,

g) Unplug the data cable. The phone will turn itself off.
h) Reboot again. It's a pain, but needed for the drivers to finish installing.

i) Upon Windows finishing the startup, plug in the data cable again. Phone will turn on.
j) Start BitPim.

k)
Go to Edit -> Settings and do the following:
Check Read Only mode.
Phone Type "Other CDMA phone"
COM port: "COM3" (not just "3")

l) Go to View -> View Filesystem
m) The file system tab will now appear in the right list view. Click it.
n) Doubleclick on "/". Wait.

o)
If you did everything right, it will now load the directory of the phone file system. The phone itself will not show any sign of activity, but you can browse the folders at your leisure. The one you want is the "Photos" folder, which contains your .jpg files. To download them, you have to right-click and save them individually.

When you are done, close BitPim first, and then disconnect your data cable. Tadah!

If BitPim reports a Com Port error:
Make sure your phone is on, the drivers are installed and the cable is connected. Go to your Windows System settings and access the Hardware -> Device Manager. Find the Curitel modem under "Modems", and open its properties. Under "COM", you should find the currently used COM port. This is usually 3, but if it reads a different value for you, carry that over into BitPim and it should work.

img247.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snapprql4.jpg
Here's a picture example of a Sepia shot copied from the Snapper, resized a bit. The camera will create severe artifacts under most light conditions, so your best image results will be via Grayscale or Sepia. But it does indeed work, and requires no further setup once you've gone through the whole deal once.

Hope it helps C:

That's about where my problem comes in, cawfee...on the Ntelos phone the photos are NOT in the "photos" folder, but in the Brew folder (under "shared/jpeg"), and BitPim (the 9.14 version) says this folder is "locked by the provider". I can access every other folder in the fileview, even create new directories, up- and download files from there, but I just can't do anything within the Brew folder.

I have no trouble accessing the phone like you describe and browsing the fileview, but when it comes to getting into that #$%^&*# Brew folder, it's a no-go.
As mentioned, the 9.14 version of BitPim tells me it's "locked by the provider", and the 7.28 version gives me a mile long error (see attachments...though that particular error was for trying to upload a ringtone, but it looks the same for trying to download photos.)

I downloaded and tried the newest version of BitPim (1.0.1), and -- again -- this is what I get (see attachments)

I guess Ntelos is one of those providers that tries to force you to use a picture message at 25 cents each to email the photos to yourself, and that's why they're stored in the Brew folder. Looks like I'm s.o.l., huh?

Re: Data software for audiovox 8915

TakenAback:

I also have an Audiovox 8915 phone from Virgin Mobile and I am currently trying to use PC Sync for TX 115C to back up my address book. I am able to connect my cell phone by entering the last four digits of my cell phone as my password. When I click on FILE >BACK UP >PHONE BOOK or when I click on CELL PHONE --> PC, my address book comes up blank. Is there anything else that I am not doing correctly?

Thanks in advance for your help. If others have insight regarding this, your help will be appreciated, too.
