LG VX9900 ringtone volume

I recently got an LG enV and the ringtone volume is so LOUD even on the lowest volume. I read a different thread about decreasing the volume of the original file before sending it to the phone, and I did decrease the volume drastically of the .WAV ringtone, but it didn't work and it was the same exact volume on my phone as it had been before. Even all of the rintones that originally come on the phone are extremely loud.
Maybe I'm converting the files wrong.. I have an MP3 that I am trying to use. I converted it to .WAV and then used Windows Sound Recorder to decrease the volume, and then sent it to my phone.
Can someone let me know if there's another way to do this?
I have to leave my phone on silent or vibrate because the lowest volume for ringtones is probably the same volume as the loudest setting on other phones.

the default ringtones are EXTREMELY loud also. They're the same volume as the MP3/WAV ringtones I send to the phone.
...I wish I had the problem of the volume being to quiet...

try a free program called audacity....it will let you reduce the volume of the ringtone. It works great for me.

I've owned the 9900 for some time now.....and I have had to both lower and raise ringtones....this program has always worked for me.

What is the difference between using Audacity and Windows Sound Recorder for lowering the volume of the file?
