Air cards vs DSL

Anyone using Verizon air card service extensively or exclusively for
internet connection?

I'm trying to decide if I should go with Verizon DSL for about $45
monthly with download speeds up to 3mbps. Verizon is offering monthly
service for $60 (but I'd get about 20% discount through my job), but
download speeds would be from 600 kbps to 1.4 mbps.

I'm looking at using one of these services exclusively as I can't
afford both. The pro of the air card is that I can use it anywhere, at
home, at the airport, at hotels when I travel for my job, etc. I'm
just a little worried about the download speed. I'm on a laptop right
now and the download speed varies from 400-1.3 mbps and it's kinda
annoying. The pro for DSL is that both of my laptops can go online at
the same (I plan to use WiFi) and that it would be faster.

I don't mind 400-800K speed while I'm at the airport, but would find
it annoying if I'm trying catch up on a Lost episode from abc.com
while I'm at home.

I'm also considering ATT's air card service (I have cell phone service
with both Verizon and ATT).

I'm in DC metro area too. If possible, can you tell the difference
from your setup now compared to previous DSL/cable/T1 service? Are
you able to stream youtube/music/shows on your computer w/o too much
breakup? Thanks.

Hey Bill- what kind of distance do you get on the bay as far as signal is
concerned?

Here's the thing...

VZW Aircard is not unlimited bandwidth. It is 5GB/mo. If you use it as your
primary internet connection from your home, you will likely exceed this
amount. In any case, using it in this manner is against the terms of
services... if anyone cares.

Given your situation, I'd go with DSL

I understand your sarcastic remark. I myself have the tethering plan and use
it all the time. I pay the $60/mo (total) for "unlimited" data (up to 5GB)
and it is suitable for me. I am satisfied with it. But I also have a DSL
connection for my "permanent" home connection.

However, this poster states he intends on using the aircard for routine
everyday home Internet access. I do not do that. I know if I did do that I
would bust the 5GB limit. Not to mention that using data (Aircard or
otherwise) for a permanent connection to the Internet is also specifically
prohibited in their terms of service (although I did not quote that part in
my response to another poster earlier). Look it up.

That statement says nothing regarding whether or not your cell access is your
sole means of Internet or email access.

Apparently you have no idea what "private lines" or "dedicated data connections"
are, but here's a clue: those terms have nothing to do with general Internet
access for the average consumer.

Nooffense, but the coverage area of Verizon' data service is a subset of
their voice service. In other words, if the aircard worked in the middle
of nowhere, a decent Verizon phone should've worked for voice there as well.
