NEWS: Sprint Nextel Posts $29.5 Billion Loss

<http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/29/technology/29sprint.html>

Sprint’s stock slid more than 9 percent after the company announced a
$29.45 billion fourth-quarter loss because of a huge write-down
related in part to its merger with Nextel Communications. The company
also said it was suspending the payment of its dividend and had
borrowed $2.5 billion through a revolving credit facility.

Deep, deep trouble, as I've been predicting all along.

It doesn't take a genius to see the problems that would arise from trying to
combine two established carrieres; one based on CDMA and on on iDen. Don't
give yourself too much credit.

Also, why the massive cross-post? This doesn't have anything to do with any
other carrier except Sprint.

Only John realized that it would be a bad match.

Actually the real problem was that Nextel would have been a good match
for no one, it was just that Sprint was dumb enough to think that
Nextel's very high ARPU and market niche could be maintained over the
long term, and that Nextel customers, when they did change systems,
would automatically go to Sprint. Instead, there was a mass migration to
Verizon. Nextel customers are about the most unhappy campers of any
carrier, due to the horrible coverage at high prices.

John,

You blathered (falsely, I might add) about CDMA.
And, were corrected - multiple times.

Now, you are trying to claim some sort of credit???
For being WRONG?? (as to the cause of Sprint's problems)

You certainly are one piece of work...

Not likely. There have thousands of cellular voice communications
users and a mere fraction of potential data user, who in many areas
can get faster speeds via DSL or cable.

But didn't the Nextel acquisition cost $29.7 billion?

NEWS: Texas Instruments sounds alarm on 3G

<http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/11/texas_instruments_3g_cutback/>

Texas Instruments, one of the world's largest semiconductor
manufacturers, is sounding the alarm over the demand for 3G phones.

The company said one of its major clients had sharply cut back on its
orders. Though TI declined to name the customer, analysts are
speculating it is Nokia, TI's largest customer for mobile chipsets.

It's not nearly as bad as you guys are making it out to be.
nearly all of that is ONE TIME loss incurred by the purchase of Nextel.

Sprint has plenty of money laying around to make up the difference, infact they have $1.9 billion coming later this year on bonds they own that will mature. Sure you hate to see a loss but when you make such a large purchase it's going to be hard to turn a profit. Next quarter will be better.

Posting rumors, John? I thought that was not allowed in this group. At
least according to you it's not.

I know it's hard for some here to believe, especially those eating with
their feet under Mom's table, but the price of oil, wheat, cooking oil,
bread, gas/diesel/lube oil, all set new price records caused by the
devaluation of the American picodollars, today.

Faced with the prospect of starving to death in their dead SUVs, just a
few, not many but a few, may think twice about buying a new SELLphone
this year as their kids continue to scream about being hungry....on the
way to the Verizon Wireless and ATT stores to load up.

Stopped at my buddy's Pizza Shop for dinner, tonight. Cooking oil has
jumped from about $15/jug to $55/jug in TWO WEEKS! I'm just hoping my 3
Chinese restaurants don't stop recycling used cooking oil to my 3 diesel
cars/truck, but it is inevitable during the Depression of 2008, I think.

We're in serious trouble that goes far beyond glitzy toyphones and
SELLular gadgets, folks. They'd never admit it, but I think they all
are in serious trouble! Noone HAS to buy a new phone or have Sellular
service, especially those trying to pay for food and fuel, which must
come first! Your report simply adds testimony to my hypothesis.

I'm in the music business, a LUXURY business. Luxury businesses are
already hit pretty hard. The piano business had a terrible Christmas
season, way down. Almost everyone has stopped producing organs, too!
Even the service business is in the tank as they aren't getting them
serviced or repaired, now. Darker days are ahead.

Sellphones aren't exempt.

Here's the culprit...worthless DOLLARS!

The value of gold hasn't changed in 10,000 years.

We need to start stringing up CENTRAL BANKERS across the planet,
printing worthless money with nothing to back it.....

Those with feet under Mom's table will notice when Mom has nothing to
put on top....like 1930....
