W385 sometimes doesn't ring, no missed call

My fiance has a W385 from Verizon and recently, someone will try to call her and get maybe 3-4 rings before her voice mail. Her phone won't ring and won't show any missed calls. Although this is an intermittent problem, it happened for close to an hour last night and I wasn't able to get ahold of her, and for at least 15 minutes earlier in the day. I tried text messages too, which she did not receive until about an hour later when my call finally got through. It's happened when her mom has tried to call, too. Signal strength isn't the issue; last night it was in her room with excellent coverage. Also shouldn't be a network capacity issue because her roommate that was about 2 blocks away from her got my call, and it was late at night. It has happened both here in IL and when we were in New York. Anyone have any ideas? VZW customer service didn't help much, just suggested *228, but I'm skeptical that that will fix it.

She may need to update the phones software. Check with Verizon's tech support, to see if her phone is running the latest software.

*228 might actually fix this issue, but there are, of course, other possibilities. The affected phone might be in a "fringe" area, meaning that it is located in a place where Verizon coverage ends and roaming coverage begins. Call tech support and ask about native coverage where you are.
