Motorola RAZR2 V9m rigntones?

Can you use a mp3 that was loaded from the pc as a ringtone is so how easy is it? If not can you upload your own ringtones from a pc ?

Yes, just stick your mini SD card into the full size SD card converter, stick it into your computer and put whatever mp3 you want on the card. Put the card back in your phone, then transfer the mp3 from your card to the phone, and you can set it as ringtone.

Best bet is to convert your MP3 ringtones to MP4 format - the V9's and V9m's have locked out the option to apply MP3's as ringers; only MP4's will work (check the properties of the ringers on your phone, they're all MP4's).

I did a bit more research about the V9 ringtone issue and found a few different schools of thought on the matter of applying MP3's as ringtones.

Seems that the problem many are having of not being able to apply MP3's as ringtones can be a carrier issue (only accepting MP4's as ringers) or a ringtone issue (incorrect MP3 bitrate, filesize, length).

So aside from what I've mentioned about about using MP4's in place of MP3's, you can try doing the following with your MP3's to see if they work:

1. Length: no longer than 30 seconds.
2. Filesize: ringtone should be no larger than 300kb.
3. Bitrate: Set the bitrate to 128kbps. Some users have found that the bitrate needs to be 64kbps, so this might be dependent on the carrier specs or specific to the V8 models.

I do know that some carriers, such as Rogers Wireless, have locked out the option of Applying MP3's as ringers but am not sure about other carriers here in Canada or in the States. I'm sure there's a hack somewhere to deal with this but I haven't come across one yet. For my phone, I have to set the ringers as MP4's and there does not appear to be a limit to the filesize (one of my ringers is 770kb) nor to length (several of mine are 31 and 32 seconds long).

Hope this helps (the above should apply to both the V8 and V9 models, but again, only trial and error will prove which will work with your particular model and carrier).

Is there any update on this issue? I just bought a Razr2 and the apply as feature on the mp3's is disabled. There has to be a hack or something to re-enable this feature.

No hack that I know of yet - seems the modders aren't getting into this model too much as it doesn't appear to have taken off like Motorola hoped it would.

There are some different tricks out there (as in my post above) but best bet is to just convert your MP3's into MP4 format (there might be a few freebie software apps out there to do this - I use Sound Forge, which is about $200) and you'll be good to go without any issues.
