#46 | | Junior Member | I'm having two problems with tolkien's solution.
First off, I can't install the update. I get a pop-up stating: "Error in directory .. The selected file(s) couldn't get extracted."
So I simply tried going through the process without the update, and when I try to convert the file, I get this error: "Error Number: 75 / Error Description: Path/File access error".
Anybody know what is wrong?

#48 | | Newbie | Hey everyone, there is an easier method to get ringtones than having to use the DRM program.
Open your mp3 or any other audio file in a wave editor program, I use Nero Wave Editor but there are lot of free editors out there.
Just cut a 30 second clip of that song using the wave editor and save it on your computer, I usually save it as an mp3.
Open the Sony Ericsson PC suite, go to the File manager and drag the music file to the Mobile phone section of PC suite. Don't put it into any of the folder just underneath them.
Then your phone will download it and ask what you want to do with the file. At that point you can say use it as a ringtone. Then you can use that file however you want on your phone.
This was much easier than the DRM method and take less than a minute.
Hope this helps. | | |

#50 | | Newbie | I seem to be having a lot of trouble with making mp3 songs into ringtones.
I tried using the DRM Packager, but when I get to the last step to create DRM content, there's an error box that pops up and says "file(s) protected successfully", and it doesn't create the file.
When I used AMR converter, I was able to convert the mp3 into AMR, but when I download it into my phone, it still doesn't allow me to use it as ringtone.
Anyone got any solutions or other methods?

#52 | | Newbie | Ok I have a Question,
So I sucessfully installed one ringtone on my phone using this method so far.
Now it recognizes that the phone is in phone mode, but when i open the phone to see the two folders. Nothing is there. I have tried my friends sony ericsson w200 and it does the same as my w580i. Any suggestions, or help?

#53 | | Newbie | I am having the same problem also I do not see the two folder under my cellular phone in file manager. As well when I try to copy the mp3 in there it says I cannot copy. I am in phone mode as well.
Also with DRM I am having the same problem as a previous poster where DRM is not creating a file.

Any suggestions, or help? | Alright I have figured it out I suggest downloading MyPhoneExplorer for the Sony Ericsson phone. I did a google search. Once this is intstalled and setup when you click on file it will come up with the folders either stick or phone memory. Then you just follow the directions in the first post.

#58 | | Newbie | [quote=Dalton;1225392]This is a "How To" make MP3's work as Ring tones on your W580i phone.
7. IMPORTANT: Do not go into memory stick or phone memory. It will take a bit of time to transfer. Check your phone. It will have a pop up saying you have transferred a music file, click yes to install it into the Music folder.
After that another pop up will come up asking you how to use it. In the list of options, choose "Ring tone" and you are done!
Hi Dalton,
I did successfully transferred 2 ringtones to my w580i last year according to your notes. Thank you very much! But now I couldn't do so any more. On the last step(No7 as the above), when the file was transfer to my phone, the pop up window won't allow me to choose anything, it simly shows "receiving..." and "the file was saved on your memory stick". It was done automatically and won't let me to click anything. After that, I can see the ringtone file icon with a red line across the key which I couldn't set it as ringtone. Heeeelp!
By the way, I did it same way to my w300 cell at the same time, and it works!!! I just don't know what's wrong with my w580i. I did "master reset " in case some configuration of the cell was changed since last year, still with no luck.
Your help will be greatly appreciated!!
Helen

Helen | Never mind, I figured it out. The trick for my w580i is that when you create DM file, the end time of rights option has to be a little later, not the default one. Thanks!
