Verizon's Coverage Loss

http://cell.uoregon.edu/loss_questionmark/

Has anyone else noticed this?? What's the deal with northern West
Virgina that displays "Extended Network" but is charged roaming? That's
a big deal for someone who chose Verizon specifically so it would work
in northern West Virginia.

Let me know, I know there's been some discussion in this news group, but
coverage loss? It doesn't seem normal, or even possible. But it just
happened with "America's Largest and Most Reliable Network".

Re: Verizon's Coverage Loss

Hopper did a nice overlay of the lost coverage:
http://www.meetmyattorney.com/cellul...ges_to_ac.html

This makes things easier to see.

PS: This coverage loss specifically effects America's Choice customers, but
probably does not effect other rate plans. I have not yet been billed for
using my phone in these areas (in Oregon), however, Verizon customer service
confirms reduced coverage for the state of Oregon.

It depends on your contract whether you have lost coverage or not. I have
lost no coverage in that area because I have the National SingleRate plan.
That said, my contract, your contract, and every other contract states that
they don't guarantee coverage, because there are some areas that no cell
provider has coverage, and some of the mountainous areas of WV are among them.
If you are on the America's Choice Plan, lots of that coverage is by contract
on someone else's tower, and contracts change all the time.

Re: Verizon's Coverage Loss

Not much empathy for those that work, live or travel to the Oregon southern
Coast or Central and Eastern Oregon. That's a lot of lost coverage to be so
cold about.

If a sharp user like Dan can be had, think about how easy it is for an
ordinary user to be had.

It certainly won't affect NSR or old SR regional plans (SRW, etc.),
and shouldn't affect LDC plans that include the areas in question.

Of course, this isn't the first time we've seen coverage "removed"
from AC -- but, assuming the map is indeed correct, this *is* the
first time that "removed" coverage has been so noticeable and so
substantial.

VZW can have my NSR plan when they pry my 9500 (or whatever phone I
have at the time, and such phone WILL have analog) from my cold, dead
hands...

Re: Verizon's Coverage Loss

I think they made a mistake on their map (or hope they have).

I noticed the area removed for Bedford county in Pennsylvania, which is
covered by US Cellular (SID 1794 CDMA digital) on the America's Choice
plan. This is also the same SID in the eastern panhandle of West
Virginia. I think this is also the same SID for some of the western
parts of Maryland (I-68 corridor).

Justa Lurker's interpretation of PRL 50096 (version 3) still shows this
SID as Extended Network (my phone confirmed this a couple weeks ago when
I was driving in that area)

However, if it is now indeed roaming, I'm gonna have a whopping roaming
bill coming up in this month's bill since I regularly make calls there
when I'm travelling from Pittsburgh to Fredericksburg, VA!

I'm not sure what the SID is for northern West Virginia (western
panhandle or Morgantown area). I'm assuming its SID 364, which is also
listed on the current PRL as Extended Network.

Now Oregon and Washington states.. that's a whole different picture, as
I believe these SIDs were removed.

Re: Verizon's Coverage Loss

If your phone said extended network when you made the call, I'd call CS
and complain.
