Cell Number to Land-Line... Number Portibility question..

I had a question about the Number Portability issue. I Don't know if
this has been covered.. I tried searching but couldn't find anything
in my archives.

If you have a business that is run through a cell phone at the
present time and were interested in moving it to a land based line, is
this possible? Can you take your cell number to a land-line company
and use it so you wouldn't have to make all new letter-head, business
cards, contacts etc? Or are you limited to movement within the
wireless industry only with this number portibility?

As the plan is set to take affect on 11-24-03 it's for wireless only
in the top 100 markets. There is some work afoot to make wireless and
wireline interchangeable, but I believe that's still up in the air and
is not part of the November 24 mandate.

Thinking of the thread about SunCom's local unlimited service with no
LD nationwide charges, Landline may be obsolete for anyone's house,
very soon.....making this moot.

At the moment the carriers are focusing on portability from cell carrier
to cell carrier, though Verizon Wireless has stated on their web site they
also plan to support landline to cellular portability. There is no mention
of cellular to landline portability, and I doubt the carriers will be in
any hurry to implement this, though I'm sure it is technically possible,
within the scope of the same limitations as cell carrier-to-cell carrier
and landline-to-cell carrier portability.

Just a guess.

And how does this make the number portability thing moot? Whether
they're offering all you can eat plans has nothing to do with whether
or not you can port your land line number to your wireless service.

Well, duhhh....He won't NEED to portable it to a landline because "all
you can eat" will make landlines obsolete, now, won't

Depends on your need for reliability. They still have a ways
to go to match landline. I think government still takes the
view that landline is a critical service. Cell service is not.

Then there are the services still geared for landline only
like security systems that dial out.
