Can I use a Sidekick?

Is there ANY WAY to be able ot use a sidekick with Alltel service?

No, I beleive just tmobile and suncome.

The Sidekick is a device intended for the GSM network only. In GSM, a tiny wafer called the SIM card is located behind the battery, which tells the phone your number and what signals to pick up and send. Alltel, on the other hand, uses a CDMA network, which is completely different to T-Mobile and SunCom's GSM network.

Actually, not only would you run into the GSM& CDMA problems, but the SideKick can't be unlocked. It can't be used on any gsm network like most gsm phones, it just can't.

Well, due to a law recently passed, a carrier (*cough* t-mobile) must honour a customer's request to unlock their device (*cough*sidekick.) Nevertheless, in order to have all the data functions to work properly, the carrier also must have a Danger (the company that makes the Sidekick) data server. The only US networks with Danger servers are T-Mobile and SunCom.

First of all, the sidekick CAN be unlocked. Yet as Char777 stated the data functions will only work with TMobile & Suncom's networks.

Second, Alltel is a CDMA carrier, the sidekick is a GSM device. This means they are incompatible no matter what you do.

I also want to clear up something Char777 said. According to the new law passed recently, it is no longer illegal to unlock phones, however, the carriers in no way have to unlock the devices for you. And the carrier that you are trying to use the unlocked device with doesn't have to allow you to use that device on their network.
