So this question is plaguing me and I want to know if this is the truth and if there is a way around it.
Two days ago I was mailed a replacement phone for my MOTOROKR after my first one completely just broke down. With my original phone, I was able to make my own ringtones on my computer, bluetooth them over, and then easily set them up as my own custom ringtone without ever having to BUY a ringtone. It was fantastic. It saved me money, plus I could make ringtones from songs that aren't commonly ringtones.
However, after getting my replacement phone, I attempted to do the same thing as I always had with the original phone, but I couldn't. The songs transfer to the phone, they even play on the MP3 player, but it will not let me apply them as a ringtone. After contacting alltel (the first time them telling me it was due to a corrupt file...which clearly couldn't be the case if the phone was PLAYING the file) twice, I was given the answer that the reason I am unable to use these ringtones is because cell phone software has been updated to block these "third party" ringtones, thus only allowing ringtones that have been purchased through the phone.
My questions are as follows:
1. Is this really the case? Are all cell phones going to new software to block homemade ringtones?
2. Is anyone else having these sorts of problems with other versions of phones?
3. Does anyone know a way AROUND this? I hate the preset ringtones that my phone has, and I just can't bring myself to pay $2 for a crappy sounding ringtone that I don't really like when I know I can easily make great sounding ones for free that I love.
thanks guys!
