Good news everyone, Vodafone loses iPhone court case...
They were so bitter they didn't win the iPhone contract that they tried
to take T-Mobile and Apple to court, but lost... Too Funny!
----
Mobile provider Vodafone has failed to break up a deal giving rival
T-Mobile the exclusive rights to distribute Apple's iPhone in Germany.
A German court overturned a temporary injunction it granted two weeks
ago, which forced T-Mobile to sell iPhones that were not tied to a
single network.
Vodafone objected to the exclusivity agreement and said customers should
be able to choose between networks

This continues to mean that if a cell company doesn't get a iPhone
contract their downfall will begin. Great! Just want everyone wanted!

T-Mobile can now sell only locked iPhones requiring 2 year contracts.

Troill, no one ever said that was about to happen.

correct, if apple only gets 30% of the cell phone market in the next 10
years, i think they and everyone will be happy.

Would you be jealous if that happened? I ask for information only.

yes, all we know for sure is that around 2 million iPhones have been
sold so far, that number will jump to 5-9 million during the next 30
"Christmas" days which is always Apple's high point for iPod and now
iPhone sales. (add in the major success of the iPhone in Europe for
those numbers)
Apple will sell around 32 million iPods during this quarter, and 3-7
million of them will be iPhones. So it's going better than anyone
expected.
By the way, has anyone caught the extremely well done commercial by
Wal-Mart? that "exclusively" shows the iPod nano? And the happy child?
wow, "I didn't know Wal-Mart sold iPods" the mother says... what a great
gift by the Apple loving Walton family.
Thanks!

Good news for everyone except consumers, of course! ;-)

Personaly, I think Apple and T-Mo have every right to engage in any legal
contract they wish to, but why are YOU so joyful? You're the anti-cellular
guy who thinks the iPhone is a port of iChat away from ending the cellular
indusrty. Shouldn't you be on the consumer's side instead of T-Mobile's
(or even Apple's in this case?)

Actually, according to your prior posts, "everyone" wanted to use their
iPhones over Wi-Fi and cut cellphone companies out of the loop entirely.
How is forcing a 2-year contract with T-Mo helping "everybody" (except
Apple and maybe T-Mo?)

More importantly, how would Apple, or any other phone manufacturer, attain
such a market share with only cellular partner per country?
I don't doubt Apple can become a major player in the industry, but to do
it, they'll eventually have to decide whether they want to stay a VERY high-
margin niche player (a la Mac) or a highish-margin mass market juggernaut
(a la iPod.)
Each method has advantages and disadvantages.

the carrier can be one single distribution point. apple is only choosing
the ones with the strongest futures if you have noticed.
what your comment omits is the widening the "iphone channel" since apple
is the first company to perfect "activation" through a massively used
application, "iTunes". other cell companies can't do this, so they have
to rely on retail locations, apple does not. currently apple has about
22 distribution points worldwide for the iphone. the ipod has over
44,000, so the writing is on the wall that once apple has all the
carriers correctly in place... they can massively drive up unit sales
with 8-14 new models that clear out the rest of the handset makers.

yes, but that's just the way apple works, they wait, wait, build great
products during the early stages, perfect their reputation and bring in
strong partners and THEN EXPAND... it's a tricky way to do it, but no
other cell player has the depth to pull something like this off.
companies like Verizon will be a fraction of their size in 10 years.
they just weren't skillful enough to understand the massive impact the
iPhone would have on their business.
