Service Lets iPhone users Call Anywhere in U.S. Get Phone Numbers for
Free
You never know when a need will strike -- for a pizza, a plumber, a car
mechanic or any one of a number of nearby services. Being able to
locate local listings such as these makes life a little easier. And
now, AT&T has announced that callers coast to coast can get free
directory assistance thanks to a new service, AT&T 1-800-YellowPages.
The service gives iPhone consumers free access to business listings
while
providing advertisers the opportunity to reach buyers at a critical
moment
in their purchasing decisions.
IPhone users simply dial 800-YellowPages (800-935-5697) from any area
code in the United States and then tell the prompt what they're
looking for
- a particular business or a type of business within a particular
city.
The caller will hear a few short audio advertisements, usually from
businesses in the category of the requested listing. Then the caller
will
get the listing they asked for, and, in many cases, can choose to be
connected directly to the requested business at no additional charge.

Nice, trollboi, but there are several ad-supported services that will allow
non-AT&T users to do this too, like Google's 800-GOOG-411.
I guess the assholes hyping the iPhone STILL haven't figured out that
Verizon, Sprint and T-Mo newsgroup readers really don't want to hear about
the iPhone and AT&T. Even though we've said so. Repeatedly.

You don't have to have a iphone to do this. Any AT&T wireless phone can get
this service for free. | | | |

You missed the point, fanboi- this type of service has existed for every US
cellphone for years. This is yet another one of yout posts that show just
how far behind the curve the iPhone really is.

Maybe you don't get it but no one on the VZW group wants your clueless
fanboi posts.
You just made yourself look sillier by announcing something that has
been accessible for years on any carrier wired or wireless. I think I
found 800-free-411 a few years ago.

Here. Is a quick iPhone tip, before entering text turn the iPhone
horizontal. When you open the keyboard it will be
much larger and easier to use. This text entered using the touch
keypad. | | | |

Me a fanboi ? Yeah right. You should re-read what I said. I said, this can
be used with phone. Not just the iphone. I don't or will not ever own a
iphone. | | | |

Well, if you are now admitting to being 4phun, and you are saying that
you are not a fanboi and simply telling us of a new service for all
phones, why is the title of this thread, "Service Lets iPhones Call
Anywhere in U.S. Get Phone Numbers for Free"? Seems to me that this
(and every other post by 4phun) has been geared specifically to the
iPhone.
That's the problem with sockpuppets- the first time you forget to change
your name, you get exposed for what you are.

So wait a minute. I can call them, listen to ads, and get connected?
How is this better than what I do now:
1. Go to the Google Maps application on the iPhone, which I generally
leave on the map of the city I'm in.
2. Type the category I'm looking for. The results appear on the map
as pushpins.
3. I pick one I want to call, tap it, and it shows me the phone
number. Another tap, and the call is placed.
No ads, and I have the business on the map, too, making it easy to go
there.
