I am all for Apple extending a bigger bang for the buck to new iPhone
users. Drop that price now Apple. Stay ahead of the competition where
almost no one has 16GB of fast memory built into their phone. They
have
$100 price-cut on 16GB iPhone on the horizon; 8GB iPhone to be
discontinued soon?

In true Apple form, we're hearing through the grapevine that Apple may
be planning to slash prices on its iPhone handset again. This time,
the price-cut will be affecting the newly released 16GB iPhone and may
coincide with the discontinuation of the 8GB iPhone.
If you'll recall, Apple slashed the price of the 8GB iPhone some
months ago while discontinuing the 4GB iPhone, so this rumor sounds
right down Apple's alley.

You're probably right. Few people would want a 8GB iPhone when there is
a 16GB version.

I have a 4GB, and don't need anything bigger. 90% of the iPhone users
out there today don't either.
Buy what you need. You seasoned computer folk should all know this.

Because most people are simply greedy. Whether they NEED it or not,
they simply WANT the newest and biggest.

Probably they want to lower inventory before they come out with the 3G
version rumored to be seen later this year...

Because the bottom is dropping out of prices in Flash Memory, and
Apple wants to retain market share and is passing along the savings,
and clearing the decks for its 3G iPhone due out in June.

There's more and more content out there to quickly fill up Gigs of
free space. Movies, TV shows, U-Tube, ebooks, etc.
and who doesnt have a digital camera anymore, and of course there's
a good camera in the iPhone.

Agreed. I have an 8GB and it is plenty of room.

We do know this. As this thread proves, there are two or three trolls
