    Apple says economy is “depressed”…

If it wasn't for this damn depression we would have sold all our
inventory of iPhone 3G on July 11,2008 then we could have closed for
the rest of the month and gone fishing.

    http://www.footnoted.org/earnings-qu...-is-depressed/

While some people continue to debate whether or not we’re actually in
a recession, Apple (AAPL) went a step further in the 10Q it filed
yesterday, using stark new language to describe the state of the
economy in its risk factors section:

The Company’s operations and performance depend significantly on
worldwide economic conditions and their impact on levels of consumer
spending, which have recently deteriorated significantly in many
countries and regions, including without limitation the United States,
and may remain depressed for the foreseeable future. For example, some
of the factors that could influence the levels of consumer spending
include continuing increases in fuel and other energy costs,
conditions in the residential real estate and mortgage markets, labor
and healthcare costs, access to credit, consumer confidence and other
macroeconomic factors affecting consumer spending behavior. These and
other economic factors could have a material adverse effect on demand
for the Company’s products and services and on the Company’s financial
    condition and operating results.”

Bull****! I'm a stock holder. Anyone who is not working 9-5, 5 days per
week to FILL THOSE SHELVES, can consider themselves LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT
ELSEWHERE. It's not their goddamned company! IT BELONGS TO THE
STOCKHOLDERS! Do we need to remind the board of directors the hard way??

Get the hell back to work!

    Fishing my ass......

Dammit, Vic, will you QUIT CROSSPOSTING THIS ****!

Yeah, I'm so depressed about it that I'm going to throw myself on the
Alter of Unbridled Consumerism and spend the rest of my putrid miserable
life looking for 'made in China' labels.

Fwiw, it's in Apple's interest to say the economy is depressed. IOW,
the only reason they're saying it is because they've decided that /now/
would be a good time (for whatever internal reasons).

Anecdotally, an acquaintance emailed me today saying that there are
"still lines at Apple stores for iphones. This morning, there were about
    60 people at Emeryville (CA)."

One last nugget: How is it that a company re-founded on open-source
software (BSD->NeXTOS->OSX) has turned out so... so... closed? And is
there a problem with that? Here's an interesting conjecture at what
happens when and erstwhile niche-market company finds "a lot" of customers:

it's a matter of priorities. Last Christmas I decided on a Garmin Nuvi
    360, instead of an iPhone.

Someone else may decide on an iPhone or two instead of a 3rd HDTV for
    the house.

Re: Apple says economy is “depressed”…

When the economy was breaking records a few years ago, housing was booming, growth was up,unemployment was around 4%, and interest rates were at record lows, know one said a word. Now, a person what common sense knows that the market is full of lows and highs, no market keeps going up and up.

The law of relevancy applies that one person's lost is another persons gain, one quick example, take the weak american dollar, it has american tourism on the rise, so money is being made somewhere. People by rule are alarmist due to media sensationalizing, and start to panic over news that may not be as bad as it's portrayed. Apple has been making more money than ever, which indicates people are spending money on their products. A common sense rule is if the economy is slipping, then protect yourself with awareness, not panic.

I bought it back in January when it crashed pretty hard down from
$200/share. It was around $120 when I bought in and I bought some more
later on for a little more. I have an automatic sell order in the system
to dump it at $148 in case I'm asleep.

The current averaged slide down from $190 is MOST disturbing, considering
all the money and hype they unloaded on the new 3G FruitFone and other
    products.

I still think the reason we're not making lots more money in AAPL is Steve
Jobs' awful appearance and this stupid notion of holding back iPhones to
make fanbois drool when they can't get it trying to hold up the prices.
It's just not THAT good a product you can screw around like this.

Jobs' health is another good reason for the automatic dumping, which may
become more public at any moment he's hauled in on a stretcher. That, I'm
afraid, would really crash the company, no matter how good their products
may seem. This company is WAY too dependent on ONE MAN who, like everyone
else on the planet is ONE heartbeat away from death. It's stupid to play
like this. But, I'll make a fair profit at $148, for my short term
investment. Sure wish, though, I'd dumped it the last time it tanked below
$190 with all the promises of going over $200 or more by the anal---ists.

Nope...panic set in and I pressed the DUMP button after lunch. 7%/day is a
little too scary. I'll sleep better tonight on the little proft I made
between $123 and $158. I watched my sale come across the ticker with the
big boys dumping it....the American Dream at work.

Steve's health, I'm convinced, is the big driver. Failing banks comes in
second. They all got hammered, today.

The blues set in when the preacher who bounced a $422.67 church check on me
failed to show up to pay me, today, as he promised to do last week. I'll
be sitting on the church doorstep on Sunday, bright and early, waiting for
their arrival. The time to be nice about the overdrawn account is over....

At least Apple is willing to put their opinions in their SEC reports.
Unlike our esteemed politicians that keep ignoring the economic
problems. I swear, every election they getter worse and worse.

Maybe we should choose one who's NOT a member of any secret societies for a
change. Wouldn't he, by his own choice, be less gullible than what we have
    now?

Diebold doesn't care who you vote for, so I'm going to write in Ron Paul so
I can't be blamed when we all go to the gallows.

I'm not sure how writing in a candidate that isn't conceivably even
remotely able to be elected solves the problem (even if someone like
Paul could win the popular vote--there's this little thing called the
Electoral College. I'm sure we all remember 2000). It's a choice between
two known evils or "throwing away your vote." Not much of a choice if
    you ask me.
