Apparently, though denying for a long time that iPhone/Touch/iTunes were at
fault with their poor and often total inability to sync with MS Outlook, a
fix, or at least in my experience a partial fix, was incorporated in iTunes
    7.7.1.

I can now sync my Touch with Outlook (2002) from my PC to the device. Yay!

Now, if they'd only figure out how to get it to work device to pc, I'd be
thrilled. But, of course, they'll remain in denial publicly about that for a
couple of months I guess. What's with Apple and their ability to acknowledge
    an issue head on?

Calendar entries? It is there, just not visible in the Day/Week/Month
view. If you view the calendar by category, you can find them in the
    "Not Categorized" category.

On the iPhone/Touch, create (edit for existing items) to repeat daily
and they'll show up in Outlook main calendar views. You can have the
repeat expire on the same date as the item is for.

iPhone/Touch doesn't support categories, so anything created there will
still be "Not Categorized" in Outlook.

Jeffrey, I thank you for this advice. You are correct. However, knowing this
doesn't help someone who wants to actually use the Outlook calendar.

The good news is that, as I've posted elsewhere, the problem seems to have
been addressed in the iTunes upgrade 7.7.1 which was introduced last week.
I don't know if the new 2.0.1 OS upgrade helps address this in any way, but
    it sure didn't hurt.

My Touch seems a lot more functional to me now. I'll be testing it some more
over the next couple of weeks to see if it works consistently.

    Thanks for your informative post.

Sure it does. Just create or edit the calendar entries created on the
iPhone/Touch as I indicated and they'll show up properly in Outlook's
Day/Week/Month view. I have not had any problems with syncing entries
    created in Outlook.

iTunes 7.7.1 did not address this, at least for me. I was already
using 7.7.1 when I first created a calendar entry on the iPhone.

I did this update today, and I think it did. A quick test entry set
for tomorrow without any repeats did show up in the Month view. It did
have an alert set, I have not yet tested for no-repeats/no-alerts.

You seem to be responding to messages you are not quoting. Please
re-read what I wrote, that you quoted above.

You have a (partial) point. I may have been in a hurry and failed to see
your last paragraph, but I wasn't totally off base. I was responding to
    this part of your post:

which I believe came from the same post, judged by the single carats before
each line and was quoted in my response.

So I'll plead guilty with an explanation your honor for the general error...
    :-)

Anyway, hoping I'm now responding to the right thing, I'm glad your initial
experiments showed the updates improved the situation. Now if Apple would
allow Notes and Tasks syncing, it might actually have a useful product for
me. It is, undoubtedly, a fun device though- I'll grant it that.

That part was itself quoted from a prior message, which I was
responding to with an update. That fact that I may have written both
    is irrelevant.

Despite Apple's claims, I would not classify the iPhone as a serious
tool for business/enterprise users. It is lacking several basic
features found by default in the other three platforms (Notes that sync
to Outlook, ToDo/Tasks at all, categories for Calendar and Contacts,
others). Some can be "worked around" via installable apps, but not
all, and should be there by default to be considered a business tool.

As it stands now, this is a consumer level device that can be adapted
    to some business use.

And now we are in 100% agreement. Your last paragraph says it all.
