The device backup takes under two hours, that's a nice change. Safari
still crashes, as does the iPod app.

Contacts still takes several seconds to load a couple hundred contacts.

    Only a x.y.1 release, apparently.

I haven't had any of these problems with the previous software or the
update. Maybe you need to do a reset?

    likely solve the problem.

To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple

Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button

    Couldn't hurt.

But but but... Apple's products don't crash, and they don't need to be
    reset!

Naaa, tried that. Safari crashed the first time in the store while the
rep was playing with her printer.

The iPod crash is a known issue going back to the first iPod Touch
release (or earlier), it's moderately reproducible by adding songs to
the On The Go list (start with a blank list) while music is playing.

The contacts list issue is also something that several people at the
office see, so I don't think it's just my device.

The thing about the iPhone, it tries to cover up the crash, some apps
(phone app) will reload automatically, or otherwise you just get back to
the home screen. Hide the "This program crashed" warning and people
don't think there is a crash.

from time to time you'll see an app crash, but the os doesn't.

    but not under 2.0

very obscure at best, never heard of it. "start with a blank list", how
many times are people going to do that anyway? never.

that only affected a few people, but it's fixed in 2.0.1

people don't think there is a crash? come on, several 3rd party apps did
this, but it's fixed in 2.0.1

As one poster on that site said: :
"What the ... 249MB? How can there be .25 GB of bug fixes to patch up?"

Some guys here were pretty adamant about defending Apple-product's
infallibility while others of us were begging for patches and work-arounds
to our various personal peeves so that we could actually USE the thing.

It makes me wonder: do the guys (particularly two of you- you know who you
are) actually USE the iPhone/Touch for anything functional or do you just
play with its awe-inspiring (but work-related-uselessness) of its pinch and
roll screen acrobatics and feel that's enough?

Thanks for notifying us. I've been hoping for these fixes since I got my
    Touch 3 weeks ago.

Don't ignore the iTunes 7.7.1 update too folks. It fixed my Outlook syncing
issue pretty well from what I can tell now.

Everything crashes....it's NORMAL. What is amusing is how screwed
customers can be convinced to defend the company and do these magnificent
deflections to the company's product defects. They are surely loyal, if a
    bit naive.

Sadly, not the case. I've had two OS crashes on my iPhone 3G so far.
I've also had the App manager crash, which blocks the shutdown process.

huh? That was under 2.0.0. Brand new phone, was activated and ready to
go, I was just waiting for my copy of the paperwork confirming the
    feature changes.

This is the *only* way to create a playlist on the device itself.

The iPhone/iPod 3G only supports editing one playlist, the "On the go"
playlist, and as soon as you connect iTunes the playlist gets renamed
(by default, to "On The Go 1")

By definition the On The Go playlist is blank to start with.

It's definitely faster loading the contact list most of the time, but it
still occasionally stalls for 5 or so seconds.

I'm sorry, what exactly is fixed in 2.0.1? All 3rd party app crashes?

Note that I have no idea what is actually in that 249MB of download:

Maybe some of it is a loader app? Maybe Apple cannot or did not simply
patch lines of code, but are distributing entire updated apps? Maybe
the updates include graphical elements to the apps (which take up lots
    of space)?

I have 13 gigabytes of music on my iPhone, plus a hundred of so photos
and a 12MB video, as well as some third party software, calendar and
contact data. No way those were all reloaded in the less than ten
minutes it took to update the device.
