Actually Fring's big advantage (for me) is that it works very well over 2G
EDGE, where Skype doesn't. (Fring uses their own lower-quality codecs for
2G.)

This hotel has no login page- it's open, but apparently port blocked.

I still prefer SIP because I can run it straight off my router to an ATA
(without a PC or proprietary Skype-phone), but Skype is nice for traveling
since you never know what you'll run into as far as "locked down" networks.

Just did- I'll catch up with you when I get a chance. While the hotel
offers free WiFi, it only works in the lobby, so I grab my email/usenet
when there, compose replies offline, and send/receive back at the lobby.
It's funny how spoiled ubiquitous connectivity makes you, but at $15/MB (T-
Mo's roaming data rate here in Mexico) I'm learning to live without! ;-)
Stoped at a Telcel dealer to inquire about a Mexican
SIM card, but they
wanted $50 US, which is the "fleece the tourista" rate. A local
SIM would
knock the rate down to $4/MB, or I could get a week of internet for $20.
