Hi Hachi- my pageplus takes a different access than Verizon. The PP
access is #738 and wait for the balance announcement before sending
    pw. Yours may be different.

Isn't it strange that the $30 plan gets 50MB of data but the $45 plan
    gets only 20MB of data?!

Also remember that you can check Pageplus voice mail from a landline,
using a Verizon backdoor voice mail access number. It's often not a
local call, but you can always use Google Voice for free long distance
if your landline doesn't have it. Some backdoor numbers have been turned
off but a lot still work. I.e. San Francisco still works, but San Jose
    doesn't.

I went back and looked at past Verizon bills, and I occasionaliy came
close to 1200 total minutes, including MTM and off-peak, so the
1200/1200/50 plan would work well for me. Worst case is a small overage.
I'm paying $30 on Verizon now for 300 peak which I have gone over on
occasion, and it really hurts to go over in terms of the price per minute.

I haven't found a backdoor number in the Chicago area. In fact, I went
through a bunch of numbers on that list on the Nordic (?) website a while
ago, and didn't find any that worked. Could someone post some known working
    Verizon backdoor VMS numbers here?

What's the advantage of calling a backdoor number from a landline, rather
than calling your own cell number from a landline? I suppose it might save
you a few minutes of use, but other than that . . . ?

I signed up for the 1200 plan, but then realized I sometimes use up to
1400 or more a month. I'm either going to have to cut back the personal
calls to a minimum (fine with me, I actually HATE talking on the phone) or
move up to the Unlimited plan. It's still $4 less than Verizon, but
Verizon didn't include any data at all. That was extra at $1.99 a MB.

    San Francisco still works. 415 515 6300.

There are sometimes reasons that you don't want your cell phone to ring.
Let's say you're checking voice mail from overseas and your phone is on
and at home. If you call the phone, someone might answer it, or you
could be calling to retrieve messages when it's the middle of the night
    at home.

    Thanks for that number.

All your points are valid, but I'd assumed if it was me calling my own
cellphone I'd have the phone with me, I wouldn't answer it (or I would have
turned it off so it didn't ring), and it wouldn't be waking me up.

I would have a look at PureTalk depending upon where you live. $39 a month
unlimited talk and text. I tried it but I am in the rural Mass/Vt/NH area
and travel all through the region and had too many drop outs. If it
weren't for my job I would have stayed with them, because they had
    coverage everywhere else I went.

Verizon et al are CDMA technology. You said you have a GSM phone; I don't
know if PagePlus has GSM coverage, since they are a Verizon rebrander.
PureTalk is an AT&T rebrander, and as far as I know AT&T has the largest
GSM network in North America. Also, NO ROAMING!

Like I said, I would have stayed with them if they had been everywhere I
go. Good deal and good Customer Service.

I have to admit, I like CDMA a bit better. The sound isn't quite as good,
but you can usually talk even if only the antenna is showing (no bars) and
there isn't that annoying echo GSM gets quite often.

All I did was go to PP's website, and picked the option to Activate with
phone number, and it was all automatic. I was on PP in less than 15
    minutes.

The only thing I don't like is the roaming. They cover everywhere I go,
just like Verizon, but one great big area of roaming. I don't go there
    very often, however.

It only took my late mother one call to PagePlus to get her T-Mobile
    number ported to PagePlus.

WOW! I use up to an hour a day! I'm thinking of going Unlimited before the

As far as 'desiring' it, nuh-uh. Evil necessity because of my job. If not

I did it by logging in as "Guest Login" I had 2 phones, an LG VX8630
Verizon gave me when they stol..er, bought Unicel, and a Palm 755 I pick
up on eBay almost a year ago. I activated the LG with a new number by
logging in as "Guest" and it gave me a new number, but you have to call
something like #228 to get it activated. They don't tell you that.

I ported my Treo over, but that phone already had the number assigned to
    it.

WHen you go to port the number, you should be able to use the Guest login,
enter the ESN of the phone you want the number attached to, and then it
asks for the number you want ported. I don't know if porting the existing
number on the same phone makes any difference; since you're giving them
both numbers it shouldn't. The ESN is held by the phone, and the number is
    held by the provider.

In less than 15 minutes I was on their service with my old number.
