It's great for the fanboys. They eat it right up despite the practical implications.

No they aren't. They use the same crap components and come out of the
same Chinese factories as any other PC.

One of my i945 minis has a busted NIC and my nv9400 minis had to have
pretty much everything in it replaced by Apple's warranty support people.

....yes. I am sure that NVIDIA and Intel run off special batches of parts
"just for Apple". No, I don't think so. Apple gets the same parts as every
    one else does.

You mean like a bad knockoff of 15 year old X features (Spaces)?

If MacOS were really a Unix then I wouldn't have to worry about the
source of MPEG files from my video camera or mpegps files for Quicktime.
One sort of file would be interchangeable with any other ( device node
versus a discrete data file) and I wouldn't have to go through special
    hoops to do simple things.

Hopefully, Linux will never "catch up" to MacOS.

MacOS is only Unix if you have a consumer's understanding of it.

With the iPad Apple has an advantage because it was willing to take
an alternate approach. They used ARM and the ipod platform to undercut
PC tablets based on price. Since most consumers are price fixated, this
turned out to be a very good tactical move.

Although it's still hard to see how things will pan out in the long
    run.

Now, selling a prettier version of a $400 netbook for $1000 is a bit
of a tougher sell. By trying to sell a "better netbook" and doing it
conventionally it gains no advantage like it did with the iPad.

    > The new Macbook Air is a response to the explosive success of the

    I wouldn't go that far.

It has a weak CPU and an overpowered GPU. This makes it very much like
any other ION based netbook on the market and hardly remarkable by any stretch
    of the imagination.

I had an MS-DOS emulator for my Atari ST when I was in college for
just this thing. This gives you some idea how far this Microsoft dominance
BS goes back. Fortunately, the relative openness of DOS made the whole
    emulation thing workable.

Because Apple blocks them with legalities, not because they're incapable of
    it.

Apple has built only PC clones since 2006.

What is your rational for this claim? Do you have one? And, heck, I will

And don't forget the Microsoft Z-80 Softcard for the Apple II which
allowed CP/M to run on the Apple II. Sold by Apple dealers.
