    I have a choice of either a Motorola T-720 or a Nokia 3595 when I upgrade my
plan, both are bascally free after rebates, any opinions on which is the
better of the two would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    ST

My wife loves her 3595. Personally, I think it's a little low in the
connectivity department, without even an IR port. Sounds fine, though,
    with pretty good reception.

My wife and I have one of each. If the same price, go for the T720. They
are almost identical as far as reception and voice quality (both ways) goes.
The Nokia has a little better battery life, but not significantly better.
The T720 is a little easier to operate, and has slightly better features.
At the same price, the T720 is a better value. If the T720 was more than
fifty dollars more expensive, I'd have to recommend the Nokia 3595, though.
It's that close. They are BOTH GREAT cell phones. If someone were to offer
me either one for free, I'd take the T720. -Dave

Does the 720 have 850 MHz as the Nokia does?

    NO, neither has 850 MHz

    http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=101

    800 and 1900 MHz

The Nokia is not shown as having 850 MHz either:

    Not according to Phonescoop.

According to Phonescoop they do, too. (you are aware that 800 and 850 are
the same thing, right?) Phonescoop lists it as "800" while Cingular calls
    it 850. -Dave

Thanks to all for the input, Still haven't decided but leaning towards the
Nokia cause I'm kind if rough on phones and the Motorola T720's construction
    seems pretty cheap.

I had the 720 originally and got rid of it. It has an inherent defect. After
a while it tends to shut off whenever it feels like. I vote for the 3595 Nokia

I hear more bad thing on the 720 e.g. battery charge short, display
freezes up, shuts-off whenever, dropped calls, broken hinges and more.
Looks like Motorola dropped the ball on this one... although I'd like to
have a flip phone, looks like the 3595 for me.

All GSM phones that Cingular sells support GSM 850 MHz, which is North
American specific ( for overlay of AMPS/TDMA coverage areas).

    Re: Motorlra T720 0r Nokia 3595

I'm in a similar boat as the previous posters, I have the Motorola
T720 & my wife has the Nokia 3595. We ported from Sprint PCS & have
only had these phones for ~ 3 weeks, but I cannot complain about the
quality of the phones or Cingular GSM service in the Chicago area.
Since both phones are "Free after rebate", I would go by personal
choice of candy bar or clam style form factor.

Both have excellent battery life and good RF sensitivity. My major
gripe on the T720 is that the Talk & End buttons are reversed on the
key pad!! Also remember that the T720 is an estabilished platform and
many of the early bugs that affected early rev's have been fixed
(e.g., dust under the screen). The 3595 is very rugged and continues
the Nokia quality tradition at all price points.

Having used the Nokia 6185 on Sprint PCS, I was able to pick up the
3595 and navigate the menu structure without the need of instruction.
That is what I like about Nokia's, they have used the same menu layout
(with additional extensions as new phones are introduced) and same
accessory interface (i.e, chargers for 5100/6100 works with 35xx) for
    years.

Both phones are dual band GSM for the United States (800/850MHz
"Cellular" & 1900MHz "PCS") contray to a previous post. (Click on the
GSM800 link on the T720 phonscoop.com link & you will see the
    explanation of the 800MHz band).

    Hope it helps!
