And it doesn't cost the normal email recipient anything to receive
spam? I guess you think that everyone's time spent dealing with the
crap that they sent is all a free donation and there's no cost
associated with that. That's the kind of mindset the spammers just

I did not mean it that way. I was just talking about the law prohibiting
junk faxes and why there's no junk sms (yet). Because the recipient has to
pay actual dollars to receive the ads.

It's a freedom of speech issue. Yes, it costs you time (and money in terms
of productivity) to go through your junk e-mail. The same applies to your
junk postal mail. It cannot be stopped because you don't pay actual
dollars to receive your email and your postal mail. At least that's how I
    understand it.

I hate junk mail, just as much as anyone else and I'm in no way defending
    it.

If you wish to avoid a per message cost, you can send text messages from a
computer to pagers or cell phones using software. I use NotePager Pro you can
try a free download at http://www.notepage.net

The sms recipient can reply to an email address but not by hitting the reply
    button.

For Cingular Network they would have to follow the procedure below (other
    networks, I do not know):

    >Start the text message with the email address. Make sure you add a space,
    >then type the message you want sent. Send this message to either number 111
    >or 121.

Yes. The address they reply from is the one from the carrier e.g.
    [email protected] , [email protected],
    [email protected] , etc.

On T-Mobile if you have been sent an email text message it will arrive
with a different number for each message received. They start out in
the 500 range and increment to different numbers the more email
messages you receive. Currently email text messages that I have
received are above the 600 range. I just sent myself a message to
[email protected] and the number of the message was 625. When
you receive such a message and reply to it you do not need to type in
the sender's email address. You only have to type using a reply
screen. When it comes time to send the message the number you send it
to is the same number as the incoming message.

I don't know about that. I had to turn off text messaging on my
wife's phone because of all the junk text messages she was receiving.
She would get about one a day. I told Verizon about it, but they were
not able to do anything about it. So, I had to just turn off the
    service.

Ah, SPSC. Yes, you can shut it off yourself at the SPCS web site. =20
Just login, then go to Text Messaging under "My Online Tools." =20
You'll find a "Setting & Preferences" link to the right (the one on=20
the left will get you there, but take a few extra clicks). One of=20
the tabs, I think it's labeled "Blocking." Lets you select=20
domains/addresses to block, but it also provides check boxes for the=20
3 systems we provide to send text messages: Web, SMTP, and TAPI. =20
Just clear the check mark and that service is shut down after you=20
    click on DONE.
