I'm in LA (OC) and have a SE T616 with Cingular service. Over the Christmas
holiday, I went to Chicago for a week. While I was out of my home area, the
phone would ask me several times per day to update my phone's internal clock
with the local time. While this was annoying, I chalked it up to some sort of a
glitch due to the fact that I was roaming.

Recently this same phone has started doing the same thing here in my home area.
Is my phone flaking out? Or is this some sort of problem with Cingular's system?

On your phone look for time and date settings and see if there's
something called "automatic update of date and time." If there is
there may be the possibility of a setting which you can turn off if
you need to. Also some phones with this feature will let you set it
for automatic update or confirm first. That's the NITZ (Network
Initiated Time Zone) which is not active everywhere in the system, but
my guess will be eventually throughout the whole system.

Neither. It is just a case where you are switching towers where the two
towers' time are out of sync with each other. The T616 has the ability to
turn off automatic update of the time. I cannot recall exactly where it is
and am too lazy to walk out to the truck and get my phone, but it is there
    <wink>. Good luck!
