Anybody have a recommendation about which bluetooth phone to get from
Cingular? I'd be interested in small size mostly. I'm not interested
in taking pictures with my phone.

T616: price is coming down, occasionally can be found free after rebates

Even though it contains a camera, the T616 is a great phone. With R1b
firmware, it has the best reception of any GSM phone I have used. Unless of
course you specifically need to not have a camera for security reasons at
your workplace, i would recommend it. Just my 2 cents though.

    Re: Cingular Bluetooth Phones?

I am using the Cingular T616. I Bluetooth with my MS Outlook and my Jabra. I
am a tech head and trust me when I tell you that this thing is the best
thing I've bought this year (although it is a young year still - lol).

Price net $50 to me after all the rebates.

However, you should go to ATT instead of Cingular. Same phone, lower price
and cheaper rates with tons more minutes. I should have looked before I
    leaped.

    But Cingular sells it unlocked.

I don't get it. I had hell with this phone. I could hardly hear anything
on it, the volume wasn't very loud (ok, maybe I'm hard of hearing), I
had to find shade so I could read the display, the camera is worthless
(although I admit that didn't matter to me), and I had frequent dropped
calls using that phone. I wanted a v600, and could have gotten one brand
new for $400, but decided against it. Got the v400 instead. I do seem to
be getting better service with it than the t616.

I keep the volume almost all the way down and can hear it fine, but you are
right about the ability to read the phone in sunlight and the camera. Unles
you use a very very bright (I use white) background when outdoors, the
display is virtually invisible. The camera is also no more than a novelty,
but like the OP stated, not an issue. As far as the dropped calls, you may
have been using one with firmware version R1a in it, which but the RF about
equal to/a little worse than most other phones. With R1b firmware, the RF is
the best I have witnessed on any GSM phone. I do know that my T616 has
better reception than my friends v400, but he may have just gotten a bad
one. At my place at the lake, he can't even make or receive calls. He gets
voice mail indications, but has to use my phone to call his and check it
because he can't call out. Same deal wih my wide's s307, but she can't even
get voice mail indicators.I also don't like the menu set-up on the v400 or
flip phones in general because of their thickness, but of course that is
    simply a mattter of preference.

Firmware is basically the software your phone uses to make everything work.
Not really the OS, but more all the instruction codes fo the hardware
    itself.

The method of finding out what firmware you have is different for every
phone. For example, if you have a T616, you press ">*<<*<*", where ">"
equals joystick right and "<" equals joystick left. That puts you into a
"Service" menu. From there you go to "Service Info", and then to "SW
    Information".
