Is it possible to setup voicemail so when I call from my cell phone it does
not require me to enter my password?
SprintPCS has the feature which I miss and Cingular CS rep said I can do
this told me I had to read my manual. With Sprint it is a network feature
and not phone specific.
I have a Motorola V600.
thanks

Sure. Go into the menu where it stores your voicemail number (look for it in
your manual if you don't know where it is). Then after the number put in 2 or 3
(you may have to experiment) pauses (p) and then your password. For my Cingular
phone it takes 2 p's. For AT&T WS, it takes 3 p's.
On Nokia phones, a "p" can be had by pressing the * key several times (3 I
think).

I'm sorry!

I never have to enter a password when checking VMail with my Moto T720.
Try this...Go into "Messages" and press the middle (Menu) button. Press
"Voicemail Setup" and enter +13179194110 for the Voicemail number. You
may need to check with Cingular for the proper number for your area if
that number doesn't work for you. I'm in Indiana and it works fine.
FYI...All I have to do is press and hold the #1 button and it
automatically connects to my VMail and plays any messages...no password
required. It was setup this way on my phone as default. Try it. Good
luck.

Yikes! Something is broken -- it should always ask for your password as a

I have never had to enter a password when checking voice mail from my
(Cingular) phone -- only when calling in from another phone.

Your phone has the password programmed into it then. All of the systems that I
have phones on require passwords.

While it's possible that my account is set up to allow direct dial-in, I can
assure you no password is programmed into my phone. I got a new Cingular
GSM phone Monday (my fifth BellSouth/Cingular phone, but the first on GSM,
and the first with a SIM card) and it dialed directly into my voice mail
with no setup on my part, and no intercourse with my previous (TDMA) phone.

Re: Voice mail password
SprintPCS voicemail has an option which allows you to skip the password only
if you are calling from your cell phone. This a network feature and not
specific to the phone

T-Mobile also has this preference choice as well. If you're calling
from the handset the default is to not ask for a password, but there
is a setting in the setup so the password is asked when dialing from
the phone. Why would anyone want password from their phone unless
they expected several people to use their phone.

Nope. My old plan and phones used to, but since I upgraded to my new GSM
Family plan, no password required when calling from either (2) T720. If
I access my VMail the old way (Call my number, wait for it to go to the
voicemail recording, press the # key then it asks for the password.) I
do, but not when pressing and holding the #1 key on the T720. It then
dials the VMail number and proceeds straight to the options menu. Must
be the new setup.

While I've come to respect your knowledge, John, How could they program
my password (only I know it) into the phone w/o my telling them what it
is? If I call from any other phone, a password is required, but not when
calling from my Cingular branded Moto T720. I've never entered my
password into the phone anywhere. Mystery, huh?

Then obviously, Cingular offers this feature too.

It's no mystery, it's simple... CID. Mine does it too. I suppose if
someone got hold of my phone they could ring in and listen to all the
boring drivel typically found in my message box, and with any luck, bore
them to death. <vbg>
