One week and counting since I requested to "port" my wife's and my number
from Cingular to Nextel. Still Cingular has not released the numbers, and
we are left using "temporary" numbers. Anyone have similar experiences?
How long were you left waiting?

I ported from T-Mobile to NEXTEL, and they shipped out my phone on a
Tuesday. On Wednesday, I received the phone in the afternoon, and the
number was working already. I didn't have any problems at all.

Mine were ported from Cingular to AT&T Wireless without a hitch, as
scheduled.
Nextel should be able to tell you a time when the numbers are scheduled
to be ported.

Re: Number Porting
I spent about 90min. (mostly on hold) on the phone with Cingular and Nextel
yesterday. After much runaround (we haven't gotten a port request from
Nextel, etc.) the second person I talked to at Nextel found a scheduled
transfer date: Aug. 16 - 2 WEEKS after getting the phones!
According to my Nextel dealer, this is a common problem locally with
Cingular numbers. The numbers in question have local "landline" prefixes,
and were at some point apparently acquired from Alltel, the local landline
carrier. Apparently that causes some delay in the process...

You ARE aware that regardless, your number is eventually going to be a
Cingular number once again, right?
