Hello all,
I am about to get a Cingular phone, and one of my main reasons is to be able
to send international text messages to Pakistan. The reps have assured me
that I will be able to do so, BUT I have been burned in the past with other
carriers. So, I would like to know if anyone here has successfully been
able to send texts to Pakistan using their Cingular phone.
Many thanks.

Sure, Osama sends me instructions all the time via text.

You can send text messages from your computer. Will that do the job?
I used my Cingular phone recently in Europe and text messages I sent were
never received and vice versa.

The person who made the Osama comment needs to go to hell and not
return. People like you are what burn the heart of peace and well
being.
Secondly, who's Al Gonzales?
As for the original question of this thread which deserves as much
respect and diligence as any other human beings question(s).. I have
no idea.
I've never attempted to SMS to a foreign country.
All I'd be able to recommend to you is to Call cingular again, write
down the name /id of the representative you're speaking with. and
perhaps even ask them for referral to where you may find their
Policies/Terms of Service online, and then just read them all, and
what they say regarding SMS and pricing?
Express to them your feelings and that you do not want to be burned..
I'm sure they or someone there will understand.
Good luck.

Re: SMS to Pakistan?
Thanks to the folks who treated my query with the respect it deserved. I
will continue to check with Cingular. I don't know of a way to send SMS by
computer to Pakistan, and in any case, I'd rather have SMS capability from
my phone. In the meantime, if someone else has had direct experience with
SMS to Pakistan, please do let me know.
To those who flamed me, please know that it's EXACTLY people like you that
are the problem. We'll never have peace in this world until there are
people that think like you (and they do exist on both sides).

Nobody flamed you. The real problem is getting insulted so easily.
Chill out.

Indeed...and for the poster that asked, Al Gonzales is GW's soon to be

Re: SMS to Pakistan?
I've had problems sending Cingular SMS overseas. For example, i can receive
SMS from China but not send them. Sending and receiving to some other
countries is hopeless.
I've never tried to Pakistan.
I heard that T-Mobile (owned by Deutsche Telecom) provides great
international SMS service. You may want to check there.

No, you didn't. You just perceived it as such. IMHO, you let your own
biases and prejudices color your judgment, and interpreted an attempt
at a little light hearted humor as a personal insult.
SS> I had obtained information online as well as from Cingular reps

As one would imagine, not too many people have posted *first-hand*
information to this group related to SMS to Pakistan. Completely
normal as it is a relatively narrow line of questioning, IMHO. That's
changed now, thanks to you and your query here. Now if anyone wants or
needs that particular information, all they have to do is search
somewhere like Google Groups to obtain the correct info. Did you try
that before posting here? You may have found what you wanted without
all that followed. Good or bad, depending on one's point of view.
SS> In case anyone is interested, I was able to successfully send an
SS> SMS to Pakistan from a Cingular phone.
If you had tried to do that before posting anything, you would have
answered your own question without the need of this group or it's
perceived discriminatory participants. Have a good one.

Not true.

That was a joke, a bad joke, but a joke nonetheless.

That was a response to the bad joke.

That's your assumption, and it's going off the deep end.

What nonsense.

This is a public forum where you *may* or may not be able to get help -- we're
all just unpaid volunteers.

Good for you. Self-help usually makes the most sense.

That's probably due to government interference.

Which ones?

I seriously doubt that T-Mobile works any better than Cingular -- AFAIK they
use the same basic mechanism.

No, John, unfortunately, given the many incidents in the US alone, a
Muslim being afraid of persecution isn't being nonsensical. It's sad,
but it's true, that too many people see all Muslims as potential
terrorists.

True or not, it had nothing to do with his original rant; i.e., nonsense.
