My billing cycle ended on the 3rd and I tried to call up and negotiate a
better deal or cancel my service yesterday. I thought my contract was up on
the 3rd but, the lady told me that my contract was not really up until the
5th or 6th and I would be penalized if I didn't wait until then then to
cancel my service. Then she told me that Cingular would not pro-rate the
last month if I did call back in a few days to cancel and that I'd be better
off waiting until the next billing cycle which will be January 3. I've
currently got the GAIT 400 minute plan and she said she could save me $5 if
I went to the GSM nation plan with 450 minutes. But, I had already told her
that a GSM only would not work for me since Cingular has such poor coverage
in areas of TN between Nashville and Knoxille. I was really looking for $10
off to make my second line $10 instead of $20. Having to use one of these
older GAIT compatible phones is worth $5 off a month by itself I will
likely be going to Verizon because they have such good coverage in TN and
they also have that IN plan where I can call my wife's phone and vice versa
with no minutes used. I did find it a little strange that the lady I talked
to at Cingular said she didn't want to lose me since I'd been with Cingular
for this long but, she had no incentives to keep me from leaving. Maybe
I'll get someone different next month who has some sort of incentive to
offer. It would be better if Cingular would put up some new towers East of
Nashville. You can clearly see how poor the coverage is in that area by

    Ben,

This is because Cingular has no 800 liscenses in that area.
