    Hello,

Is it possible, assuming you have an acct with cingular, to open a new
second acct and move the number from acct A to acct B or does it have to
come from a different carrier? I would like to do this because of a mistake
I made in buying from a retail outlet instead online where I had more free
phone options. I want a Motorola 220 which is available online for free but
the retail outlet (cingular store) will only give me a Sony 237 which I hate
now that I've had it for a day. I don't want to lose my number since I've
had it for years and it's on my business cards.

    Thanks

Your best bet is to simply call them, the customer service
representatives usually do not hang out on alt.cellular.cingular =]

    1. Return the Sony 237 within 30 days, but don't cancel the account.
    2. Order a new Motorola 220 online.

    Hello John,

Won't this require full payment for the phone?

In response to Marius' post - I did call the customer service people and
they told me to give the Sony as a gift and buy a new phone. Somehow I
don't see this as an equitable resolution to the situation.

It shouldn't require full payment, since you're entitled to a subsidy ($100
off on a 2-year contract) that you haven't received. (I've done this myself,
albeit in a store rather than online.)

Thanks John and everyone else. I'll pursue this some more and see what
    happens.
