I have a new phone with new Cingular service on order at Amazon.com.
The phone will not be delivered before my current Verizon billing
date. I want to cancel the Verizon service before I get the Cingular
phone. Can I still port over a phone number from Verizon to Cingular
even though my Verizon service would be canceled? Or do I need to pay
for another month on Verizon to keep the number active?

Thanks. I guess I will just keep the Verizon account another month.
It's pretty close to the cheapest anyway.

Canceling the service gives the number back to Verizon. So don't cancel!!
Porting the number does two things - it allows you to keep your number and it
automatically cancels the old carrier's service.

Thanks. I will keep the Verizon account active until I get the
Cingular phone (Motorola V551.)
