Hi all,
finally went online and ordered the Motorola V551 on their site and
currently waiting delivery. A couple of questions:
1. The data cable for this unit, $30?? Is it available cheaper in any stores
or only online? (Seen it online for $10.
2. For the unlimited data plan with Cingular, how do I add this? All I am
seeing on their site is the per byte etc plans?
3. Is there any decent step by step guides online for setting up the phone
as a modem for a notebook? OR does the phone manual explain this?
TIA
Patrick

Make sure you're getting an OEM Motorola Cable to ensure functionality
and the included Motorola Software.
Lower than $30 is available on eBay.

If I'm looking at the right one, they are sold out.

Re: Bought V551, some questions
I followed instructions on this page:
http://navasgrp.home.att.net/#Cingular
(thank you John)
In five minutes my laptop was connected to internet via V551 and Cingular
MEdia Works.

Re: Bought V551, some questions
So what is the best way to connect to the net with the V551? Cable or
bluetooth? I have a USB bluetooth adaptor for my laptop.
Which section of the guide am I using for the setup in that guide? No
referance in that link to the V551?
Anyone got any experience with Motorola online and their shipping? I have
not gotten any word from them on shipping, yet the delivery date when I
selected the fastest delivery service gave Firday 17th. After their first
emails I have no correspondance from them since.

Re: Bought V551, some questions
Personally, for me - the bluetooth serial modem link is too much of a
hassle, it is much easier for me to just use a usb data cable setup
with my nokia 6620.
As for motorola, well - it may be easier/more convenient.

Only you can decide which is best for you. I personally prefer Bluetooth.

Then you're all set.

Use my Cingular MEdie, and adapt the material.

I think he means this...
http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/cingular/media.htm
.... which is what I used for settings.
As for getting the bluetooth going, on the PC I just just double clicked
on the little bluetoot icon in the taskbar, did find bluetooth devices
after having activated bluetooth on the phone, and then again on the
phone, then on Dialup networking gateway. At this point I entered what
John has at the link above.

Re: Bought V551, some questions
Nice thing about the 6620 is that the data cable is included with the
purchase of the phone.
