What do you guys use for email?

I am trying to get an email setup where it will send SMS to me when
there is new mail. It looked like Mywirelesswindow should do the trick.
I have it setup so that I get an SMS when new mail arrives, but I
can't login to get the mail. I have gone over the settings a zillion
times. Maybe there is something I am doing wrong, but for now I am not
    spotting it.

    ISP Settings: GPRS
    EMail providers: Custom
    Protocol: POP3
    User ID: [email protected]
    Password: <not shown>
    Sending Host: photo.mycingular.com
    Sending Port: 25
    Receiving Host: pop3.infospace.com
    Receiving Port: 110
    Return Address: <not shown>
    Name: <now shown>
    Cleanup: None
    Save on Server: Yes
    Notification: On
    Check new msgs: No
    Size restriction: 10240

I also checked out cingularme, but that site appears to be down as I
keep getting "system error, try later".

If I could get mywirelesswindow working, I think it would do what I
need, but the thought has occured to me that maybe cingularme offers
more and I should be looking there.

    Any thoughts?

Re: Email setup: mywirelesswindow vs. cingularme

Don't know abt Mywirelesswindow. But I've found out the following abt
    mycingular and cingularme routes:

Email to phonenumber@mycingular will send a notification message to phone
and translate the email to SMS.
I haven't found any way to reply to these emails as there is an sms-email
    gateway and email-sms gateway and
I haven't found out how to reverse the process.

But email to phonenumber@cingularme gives me a notification and allows reply
    (albeit with a stupid cingularme
    signature attached.)

Also, Ive been successful sending straight email from phone (i.e. non SMS
messages) using email message settings I posted
    here yesterday.

Attachments: Have experimented only with mycingular and these work both
    directions? Haven't experimented with attaching
something to email message, nor with cingularme.

AFAIK, Cingular email is web/wap-based only -- POP3 isn't supported.
I personally use a regular ISP (Sonic.net) for email. Otherwise I'd use a
    POP3 (or IMAP) email provider.

Oh ok. That seems kind of silly, but I can do that. I would like to
get an alert when email shows up, preferably with some of the message.
The best way I can think of is to set up an address that drops mail into
a POP/IMAP mailbox, and forwards it to one of...

    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

.... which would cause an SMS to be sent to my phone.

Ideally I would like to be able to respond quickly to short emails by
    just responding to the SMS.

Responding to SMS sent via [email protected] doesn't seem
    to go anywhere.

Responding to SMS via [email protected] also doesn't seem to go
anywhere, although I thought it did before.

The cingularme address does respond, but with an annoying ad tacked on.

The other thing that the cingularme does (or does in combination with
the software on my v551) is combine mutiple SMSs into one presented
message. So, except for the ad, cingularme seems pretty good.

Re: Email setup: mywirelesswindow vs. cingularme

The way Cingular has set up multiple routes is absurd. Some routes can pass images, some can't. Some provide a reply path from the
phone, some don't. Someone at Cingular with some brains should consolidate all of these and provide an easy to use and easy to
    understand email system.

My current solution is to send stuff using email messages which will carry images. But I have as a return email address the
cingularme address cause that allows me to reply from phone. But I haven't gotten use to the phone enough so that it's second nature
to me. Every time I have to stop and think about the flow.

Compare that with normal email at home and work. The carrier is totally transparent. I send text, images, attach documents, etc to
email and never have to stop and think about which route I have to use. I realize that the bandwidth doesn't exist for rich content
messages with cell phones but the present system is a dogs lunch.
