Nokia 6230 or Moto V551?

I am looking to upgrade soon and I want a phone with bluetooth. I have
always used Nokia phones but I was wondering which is the best between the
Nokia 6230 and the Moto V551?

I looked at both at the local store (rebadged from AT&T to Cingular) and
decided based on personal preference and the news groups to go with the
Motorola.

Things in the Moto favor was it was a flip phone, which I hoped would hold
up better in my pocket, and possibly the video in the future. Nokia's
points were a little thinner, maybe it would use some of my old Nokia
accessories like car chargers (I never researched to see if it changed),
and it has a faster Edge implementation. But I'm not sure I like how
Nokia has changed their look and feel over the last few years.

I would suggest, if you can stop in a store, to see which one you think
feels better to you.

I was a Nokia owner for many years prior to purchasing the V551 in November
2004. A friend of mine purchased the V551 at the same time but returned it
and went back to his Nokia 6340i because of the lack of reception and
dropped calls with the V551. I've learned to tolerate the dropped calls ...
although they are a major inconvenience.

You'll have to decide what level of inconvenience is acceptable for you. I
have used the bluetooth with my V551 and it works fine.

I was just recently going to purchase the 6230. It was my preference between
the two. I prefer non-flip since I carry my phone in my pocket, not on a
holster, etc. The only concern I had about it was the small screen. I would
have liked it to have been a little bit bigger. The external memory staorage
on the 6230 is a VERY nice feature also if you might possibly utilize it.

That being said I would up with 2 v551 phones. I was going to go purchase
the 6230 and get my wife a new cheap freebie last tuesday (maybe wednesday?)
evening. A nice surprise I got in the mail that afternoon changed my mind
though. Cingular sent me a letter offering me the v551 for free, $18 upgrade
fee also waived, and a $20 bill credit on top of that. Having the small
pockets I have, I decided that offer was too good to refuse. I immediately
placed my order for 2 of them. Now my wife will actually have a decent phone
also.

she wanted the flip phone and I got the 6230 for the MP3 capability.

It happens we got the 64k SIM cards because they were out of the 32k's.
What good does it do us? I asked the guy at the store and he couldn't
tell me. Said they both had the same limits on the number of numbers
they could store.

It actually appears that the only real benefit of the 64K SIM is to allow
Cingular to remotely "home" you on either blue (ATTWS network) or orange
(Cingular network).

is there any way to get around from being homed onto the cingular network? There are two towers in my vicinity on cingular the other ATT my new sees them as both cingular (also turning off my operator options on my 3220 nokia). The cingular tower is about 300 yards away from my home the other is about a mile. My phone will toggle on both towers, based on my reception I see from time to time. When I was ATT I had operator options on my phone. Can do something to the sim to get these options.

As a Cingular (orange) subscriber, to be homed on ATTWS (blue), you need a new
phone that supports ENS, a 64K SIM, and then you can ask to be (manually)
homed on blue.

I have a Nokia 6230 with an 64K SIM. However I'm not sure ENS is working
properly. Signal is marginal in my house. When my friend brought his 6200
from ATT over, he had full signal. Do you have any suggestions about how to
tell if ENS is working? Thanks.

Automatic network selection by ENS doesn't seem to be working -- you have to
ask to be manually Homed on the network of your preference.
