My contract has expired with Verizon. Am considering changing to
Cingular as I can get a substancial discount for the phone and plan
    via my employer.

I need to get some feedback abotu Cingular in central NJ. In the past
I had ATT Wireless (TDMA), T-Mobile and they were HORRIBLE. I could
not even get a signal in my house. With Verizon I get a signal
    everywhere even in my basement.

The only reason I am looking to change is to save some money. Verizon
is just not cheap and with the employer discount there is substancial
    reason to change.

Your best bet is to sign up for a new phone and try it. You have 30 days to
    cancel without penalty.

I have Verizon for personal use and Cingular for work. Unfortunately I have
to take both phones with me during the day and the Cingular service is as
just as good or better then the Verizon service. I'm located near and around
West Windsor, Hightstown area of NJ. My Cingular voice quality also is
clearer and more sharp...unlike the Verizon sound which is stuffy and has
static a lot of time. I find myself going for my work phone all the
    time...because of the sound quality.

I have found the same difference in voice quality nationwide. Back when
I had Cingular TDMA, I remember visiting somewhere that only had CDMA
carriers (it was a Western Wireless territory) and other people were
amazed with the call quality. Not only that, they were also amazed that
the phone would hand off between TDMA and AMPS, then back to TDMA (CDMA
can only go to AMPS, AMPS cannot go to CDMA).

I don't know about other people, but I would rather have the higher
voice quality than found on GSM than worry about AMPS coverage for
places I only visit every few years.

Hahaha, you'll get no one to agree with you here on that one....even if it
    makes sense and is true.

You may want to have your VZW phone checked out. It is pretty unusual to
have "static" on digital calls. Maybe your phone is stuck in analog? I
travel in PA/NJ/NY a lot and am quite happy with the coverage and sound
    quality on VZW.

I've used several different phones. Since you can change what phone you use
right online through VZW's website. I've tried a couple V60's, some very old
    Nokia's...a brand new Nokia, etc...

It's just that Cingular had a clearer quality, that's all. I'm not saying
Verizon's was terrible or hard to hear the conversation...but it wasn't as
    good as Cingular's.
