Just back from a visit to Nassau where I was hoping I might roam on
Batelcell's new GSM system. Before leaving the US I had called CS to be
sure international roaming and dialing were enabled on my account. I was
hopeful, then, as I had read some recent comments on HoFo indicating
occasional success in Nassau. My phone was able to register on their network
but could not complete any calls; any attempts resulted in a rapid busy
signal. Too expensive to try calling Cingular to try and troubleshoot it.
Of note was that almost no tourists were carrying cell phones anywhere ...
guess that says something about the current state of affairs.

How UNfriendly too. I have an AT&T prepaid long distance card that I've
used in several countried by dialing the AT&T Direct number. Sonofagun ...
AT&T won't connect you from the Bahamas. Speaking to the AT&T operator, I
was told the Bahamas had restricted use of prepay LD cards except their
    own.

Just making the best of a captive audience, for me I think preventing me
from taking my own food and drink to movies, Disneyland/world, and the
baseball game is unfriendly. Did you see any Wifi hot spots ? If you return
you could try a Wifi VOIP phone.

Wasn't looking for hotspots but I did notice one in the international
    departure lounge at the airport.
