It can work with any GSM provider as long as the phone supports the
frequencies used by the GSM provider. If it's 850/1900, it'll work on
any GSM provider in the U.S. or Canada, and a limited amount overseas.
If it's a quad band, it'll work on any GSM provider in the world.

I have the Motorola MPX 220. Which particular providers in the New Jersey
area use GSM aside from Cingular?

Actually, there are some small GSM carriers in the U.S. that use only
850 mHz.

u can use t-mobile and at&t. this is a good phone and quad band. 850mhz works on soma part of ma and fl and some carribbean country. if you want your phone unlock check this site www.cellularpager.com i have unlocker but good only on nokia phone. when i still have my samsung s105, i'll send it to them thru first class w/ delivery conformation and after a week a recieve it already unlock.motorola is hard to unlock. it needs data cable and soft ware to unlock it. not like nokia you can unlock by just pressing your key pad with special code. if you have nokia i can provide you the code.
