Multimedia Messaging Question Please

The Cingular literature says that on a pay per use basis it costs 25 cents
to send a multimedia message (picture). A rep at a Cingular owned store
told me that in addition to that there would also be a data charge and if
you did not also have a data plan it could cost you $2 or more to send that
picture. It sounds hard to believe to me. He wasn't right was he?

They used to charge only the 25 cents for the message. I seem to recall
reading that they do now also charge for the data also. If I am not
mistaken, there is a 100K limit on an MMS message though, so you should be
looking at a $1.25 max based on a $.01 per KB charge.

Re: Multimedia Messaging Question Please

If that is the case their rate plan brochures are not only VERY misleading
but possibly illegal. I've looked pretty thoroughly and see no reference to
data charges (I realize it's probably there somewhere though).

Re: Multimedia Messaging Question Please

In fact he was. You're sending two different things here. You're sending
an MMS (Multi-Media Service) message and using DATA to do it which has a
seperate charge attached.

So you're saying the Cingular literature just doesn't make it clear how
to properly send a multimedia message? OK then, how do you send
one without using data, thus avoiding the charge they don't advertise?
(I don't have MMS yet, but we all hate paying unnecessary charges.)

Re: Multimedia Messaging Question Please

I found the definative answer from Cingular literature. While it is true
that an MM message does access the web you are NOT charged for the KB used.
