Any one have a S710a and using MMS or internet.
Mine is not working that well. I usualy can not send messages, and the
inter net does not work 90% of the time
Cingular has been no help, as "they do not have the settings for this
phone". It took 3 month for them to approve the phone, but they do not
have the setup information.
I get, 'Wrong Internet Account' and 'Wrong Phone Number' errors when
trying to use the MMS, SMS or Internet.
The phone is great with only a few exceptions (one is the setup), the
oher is the phone book search sucks, and no way to prgram a phone
number that is <Number>_wait_<Access-code>_wait_<Pin>
Thanks

Re: S710a Internet issues / MMS
I just got that phone and had (am having) similar problems. See my
post at
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...a85ac5610d22e7.
Make sure that you call them and tell them that you cannot make it
work. They will probably tell the same crap that they told me. Sony
Ericsson Customer Support phone number in the United States is (866)
766-9374. If you need more help or phone numbers, go to their website
http://www.sonyericsson.com/support. At their website, you should be
able to have them send you automated messages that will program your
phone. If you have to do it manually (if they don't already have a
pre-programmed setup for your provider), then you are screwed. Or just
send the phone back NOW.

Re: S710a Internet issues / MMS
I just contacted Cingular Wireless and they told me that the phone
needs to be replaced, so I have to do that now. I have only had this
phone for few days and have spent countless hours entering phone
numbers, email addresses, etc. into the phone (209 names and numbers
entered manually - and I have severe nerve damage which causes pain and
numbness). CW is going to send me a new phone (same brand/model) and
pay to have my phone shipped to them since I bought it through them.
The techical support department of CW told me that I should be able to
enter the "@" symbol (without quotes) into the 'Mailbox' field. So
that means that Sony Ericsson lied to me when they said it was not
necessary. I already knew that was true. They did not tell me that
until I became angry and very persistant to get a solution. My advice
about the Sony Ericsson S710a is to avoid buying one. If you have one
and are having problems getting solutions, send it back and get a
different phone. Get a palmOne Treo 650. I almost got one of those,
but it would cost about $100 more than this phone (or maybe more if
there was no credit for getting a 2-year agreement with Cingular
Wireless - $100 off the price of my phone). If you like Sony Ericsson
(I always had Nokia before), wait until the P910 (or S910, whatever)
comes out in the near future. That seems like a nice phone (if it
actually works - good luck getting tech support if it does not).

Thank you for the post. After another 2 calls to CW and 4 hours, I got
a tech person that sent a 'message' to my phone that re-programed the
internet and MMS settings.
Seems to be working.
This is AFTER, I was told to go to Sony Site, that their network was
having problems, that their teir 2 support was going to call me, that
the area I was in was a fringe area ........
But so far, it seems to be resolved.

Re: S710a Internet issues / MMS
I finally got an email response to my problem about entering the @ (at)
symbol. In that field (and some others, I guess), the 0 (zero) key
will insert the @ (at) symbol (and some other sysmbols). It seems
strange to use different keys to enter an email address in one field
and different keys (key) in another field on the same page. But I
still cannot make the Gmail POP3 email work on my phone, no matter
what I enter in other fields. I still need help or have somebody tell
me that it is NOT POSSIBLE. It should be possible.

Gmail POP3 is very strange. It is not on normal POP ports, and uses
advanced setups. Getting it to work on my Mac took a bit.
I have learned that I can set other POP accounts using Sony's site
www.sonyericsson.com/support
find the s710a pick MMS as outgoing and then select from a long list of
incoming, Adlephia and MAC.COM were both listed.

Re: S710a Internet issues / MMS
I did the automated stuff for what applied to me, but there is nothing
for Gmail. The other automated stuff works. I wish they had one for
Gmail. Maybe one of the reasons that Gmail is still in beta is because
of whatever problems cause that. I tried the 'Other' configuration,
but it cannot access the server, or if it does, it cannot send/receive
(not exactly sure, but it does not work). My SBC Yahoo! email
automated setup works (at least to read - have not tried to send yet).
