My orginal contract was with Suncom,a regional plan covering l3 states
with200 minutes. I still am on this plan and Cingular has honored it
perfectly but I have an Ericcson phone that is due to cease working
probably soon. How do I go about getting a new phone and leave my
account intact. In other words, new updated phone but keep the old
plan. Thanks for any help.

If it is a GSM phone, buy a Cingular branded GSM phone off of ebay. You
might have to purchase a new SIM card from Cingular for it. Or, you might
just be able to use the SIM that is currently in your Ericcson phone. -Dave

What phone do you have? There are two options:
Purchase a used TDMA phone, and call Cingular with the ESN.
Purchase a GSM phone (may need to be unlocked since you would have a
SunCom SIM). You may just put your SIM in this phone, and your phone
will have service.
If you don't mind a used phone, check eBay, or ask around and see if any
of your friends have a used phone that might work. If you want a brand
new phone, you'll most likely have to pay top dollar for it (if there is
one available). If it's GSM, you can always buy a new phone, (or a
"Refurb/Used" that's equivalent to new). The Refurb/Used phones are
usually ones that customers had and returned during the 30 day window
when they decided against service, or exchanged for another phone at the
beginning.
