First of all I don't have that exact phone so I can't be 100% sure but I
can tell you my experience with other phones with bluetooth, etc.

    bluetooth on

If you don't use Cingular to send them to each other than no (you aren't
    contacting the network with bluetooth)

Same answer as above as regard to cost, if the phone supports file
transfers (every bluetooth phone I have had does, but all were SE phones)

I would get a bluetooth (faster of yook around $20 - $30) or IR dongle
(slow... but cheaper) for the computer instead but yes the cables and
software will likely allow you to send the pictures to the computer so
you can email them to people through it instead.

Usually but if the phone supports MP3 ringtones download I would use
those instead and use a tool to cut the part of the ringtone you want as
    the ringtone http://www.snapfiles.com/get/megamp3split.html is a
freeware utility that can do that for you .

Just got my phones LOTS of questions...V551's

I just got 2 phones on Cingulars family plan (lots of people in our family
have this service so it "should" save us $$ since we will all be in network
    now).

Anyways I knew we wanted the service and the phones yet the guy helping us
was VERY bad and I asked questions and got alot of I dunno's... But wife
wanted these and this service so we signed up anyways.

Here are a few of my first basic questions.

Both phones are the motorola V551's with bluetooth, if I turn bluetooth on
both phones on and transfer data such as the phone contacts from one phone
to another, does this cost me extra?

Second, can I send pictures and video to each other thru bluetooth too like
I can phone contacts? Does that cost extra to do?

Third, I have seen these things on ebay that are usb cables and software
discs , can those allow me to fill my camera with pics and download the pics
to my pc to email to family out of state without costs of sending the pics
    from the phone?

Also on those discs they say they have ringtones, without that cable, is
there anyway to get a ringtone into the phone besides going thru the menu
    and buying ringtones?

I will admit I am a 100% novice when it comes to this stuff, i had verizon
and it was a basic stick phone, i never knew what bluetooth was really still
learning, the headset looks neat too, basically just curious of what stuff
is gonna cost me to use and do, i hate to transfer a bunch of stuff via
bluetooth and find out 30 days later it cost me $50 extra or something.

Been reading the manual and trying to set the phone all up , slow but sure i
will figure this thing out fully.

I'm not certain about all phones, but some can't handle any .mp3 clip
that's encoded at a rate higher than 64Kb/s - but if it's that rock n'
roll crap, a low bit rate just may improve it.

Not sure if you can transfer ringtones/pictures phone to phone via
bluetoooth, but you can use a data cable or bluetooth connection to
transfer to/from a PC with a bluetooth adapter. You can also use the
"Mobile PhoneTools" application to edit MP3 (to some extent),
store/retrieve pictures & phonebook entries. Motorola sells it but you
may be able to find it from another retailer:
    http://motorola.digitalriver.com/ser...85100&Env=BASE
They have other bundles that include the BT adapter or data cable. Both
of these items can be purchased seperately, like on ebay.
