Overnight (last Wednesday) I have "no service"
in Massachusetts while the phone works just fine in NH.
(I drove 30 miles each direction)
Calling Cingular customer service in vain.
"The phone is broken"
"It is an old (TDMA) phone - get a new one."
Never the less they insist that nothing change
except "integrating AT&T with Cingular.
Any ideas?
Tx,
Uzi

Could be a tower failure, or conversion of the tower from TDMA to GSM.

Re: Suddenly "No Service" on a Motorola V60i
Thanks, John,
It can't be a tower as I drove south (int Massachusetts)
over 30 miles and I had "no service" all the way.
North, though (Many communities) - reception is fine.
So, the "conversion", then.
Can something be done?
Thanks,
Uzi,

Re: Suddenly "No Service" on a Motorola V60i
I can't say anything as to it being broken, but it is an older phone.
Time to get a new one. They are right, nothing has changed. cingular
was gsm before the purchase of att, and it still is. Except, yes, all
the att tdma customers are being "integrated" into the cingular gsm
network.

It could be that a group or string of towers in your area were converted
to straight GSM then. It could ALSO be that an MTSO has gone out, and
thuse a group of towers went down with it, but that would have much
greater consequences that would affect GSM and TDMA users homed on that
switch. If that switch serves your number, then incoming calls wouldn't
work either, no matter where you went.

Most likely.

Short of switching to a GSM phone, probably not.

Cingular was also TDMA in the past.

Guess one of the bands could be bad and he has a single band phone now.
Roaming data base could be bad. Dual band tdma phones are cheap guess you
could buy one on ebay and swap it out. Call customer service and ask for a
over the air update to reload the RDB. If you get a replacement it will need
to be programed and customer service will need to do an esn swap.
