Wait until the phones are 6 months old and start dropping calls every few
minutes (with a brand new battery). Motorola does manage to make a decent
cell phone every once in a while, but they always manage to screw it up
significantly, somehow. I wouldn't carry a Razr if someone paid me

Never seen that kind of problem. Both the V551 and the V3 RAZR are excellent
    phones.

Solid state devices that fade, not fail, in six months?

It is alleged that Isaiah Beard claimed:

; > I switched from Verizon to Cingular for that reason. Bonus, I was able
; > to get VZW to waive the termination fee, too.
    ;
; Wow, how'd you manage that? I would LIKE to get Sprint to recongnize

It was simple, really. I told them why I was canceling (no service at
home, even outside) and specifically told them I wanted the termination
fee waived. I also told the CSR that I had been patient, I waited a
whole YEAR for them to do something about the lack of coverage to no
    effect.

The CSR said that they need to send a tech out to verify my claim of no
service. I told the CSR to make sure the tech knows to actually come
onto the property and not merely sit out on the street. Next day, VZW
called me back to say that they verified my complaint, and that the fee
    would be waived.

; > What's wrong with LG? Is it all of them, or only the GSM models?
; My experience, and those of my friends, are that they are just all bad.
; we placed an LG PM 325 (CDMA phone on Sprint) once side-by-side next to
; a Sanyo 5300 (also CDMA, Sprint). The 5300 had five bars and the LG was
; searching for service and couldn't find it. VERY poor signal reception,
; even in areas where other phones are fine.

Huh. I followed the verizon group when I was still using VZW, and
according to the users there, the LG phones are not only top sellers,
but several of them are better as telephones than Nokia and Motorola.

Care to re-word that? Your question makes no sense at all. Nothing is
fading, but solid state devices can definitely experience failure modes that
might be described as "fading". So your question is WHAT, exactly? -Dave

    Such as?

Solid state devices generally work or not work; i.e., don't "fade."

    >So your question is WHAT, exactly? -Dave

What in the phone itself could make it drop calls after only six months of use
    (other than abuse)?

Yup. Working for a few minutes, and then not working.

Beats the heck outta me what causes it. Same exact symptom in two identical
Motorola handsets. Neither one abused at all. Both still look brand new
and function fine. That is, for a few minutes at a time. I know it's not
abuse, it's not a battery, and it's not the network. Both have 64K sims
recently programmed. I can talk all day long in the same areas using Nokia
    handsets, no problem at all.

So many Motorola handsets have thrown nasty surprises at me (note I usually
have no choice, as the motorola handsets I've carried are usually pushed on
me by employers) over the years that I won't be surprised at all to see
people complaining about the razr here in this ng within a few months. High
    end **** still stinks. -Dave

FWIW, I've never seen that problem with any of a number of Motorola phones.
My suspicion is that something else is going on.

I had to switch from Sprint for the same reason. I got a Nokia
6230 and have been extremely happy with it. It has bells and
whistles, most of which I ignore. But I got it because of
BlueTooth. My phone is my job. With the bluetooth, I put the
thing on my ear, carry the phone on a strap around my neck, and
carry on business wherever I am. Only downside is people who see
you sometime think you're talking to yourself. Had to explain it
    yesterday.

LOL. I'm finally getting to the point that when I see someone talking to
themself that I assume they're really on a cell phone call and not just
    escaped from the nut house.

I think it was CNet that recently posted as much as 10% of the
'conversations' you observe as people 'faking it'.

I'm guessing they have fewer friends than their IQ or their pre-paid has run
    out.

Re: Best phone as a phone?

I've had Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung. My wife has a Siemens. Myself,
and my coworkers travel a good bit, and I see the reception that they
    get (various carriers).

My take (and confirmed by employees at several phone store outlets) is
that Nokia generally has the best reception/range of all the phones
available. Nokia also has the most user friendly menu. Motorola makes
quality phones, but the reception/range, and menu system is not quite
up to Nokia's. I would buy either one, but design and features being
equal, I would choose the Nokia.

My Samsung that I am using now (x427m), I really don't like, and I hope
to replace it before too long. The menu takes too many key presses to
get what I want, the display is virtually unreadable in sunlight, and
there is no display visible a few seconds after the last key press.
The Siemens that my wife has (the CF62T with T-Mobile), she doesn't
like. She preferred the Nokia she had previously.
